Is it safe to buy fuel/diesel from supermarket chain stores?

Wow I've got myself stuck in one of them hduk fuel arguments. I just came on to give op my first hand advice and that is all.
How exactly do you want me to "prove" this to you?
You want to meet up and take a trip round the fuel pumps together taking samples?
Troll. You are now on my ignore list.

Not really an argument, I am not even saying what you said is wrong, I am asking you to prove that super market petrol is red.

As to how to proof it....you use a lot of it? so it can't be long until you use it again, pour some into a glass and take a photo? I'll trust you, you can even use vimto if you want to "win" this "argument".

Just note that you made a claim....I am just questioning it.
I no longer buy supermarket fuel after finding out why I was having issues years ago, so no I won't be able to do that. I don't even know what vimto is but I can take a guess. I also wont make the mistake of giving my 2 cents about fuel online anymore. anyway I'm out.

I've have several bad batches of petrol from Esso (run by Tesco shop) the fuel smelt a bit off and made my machines run really poor.

With Sainsbury's diesel, I seem to get less MPG's so I avoid them if I can help it.

I've started to go to Costco now. All seems good so far. Cheaper too.

Not much price difference in my BP filling station right next door to Tesco so I use BP plus the BPme app (had £4 in 2.weeks.so it adds up)
As rumer has it BP has the superior additive shot added I go for BP,.as said the app making it the same or cheaper.
I've gone.from a lump of an sdi non turbo that would run on anything to a.dpf 1.6tdi.so I want to give it the best chance.
Regarding premium diesel ?
Why you should avoid using premium diesel
I know folks get excited on here, this is just adding someone's opinion to the debate., personally I use the standard but some in know chuck a tank in occasionally

Thank you for your view.. This is what I also do myself and for some reason, I always feel confident fueling at BP than any other fuel station. It seems though that most on here, don't really see any issues with using Supermarket as opposed to BP shell etc. Am I right though to assume that BP and shell would be considered as the Rolls Royce of fuel or I'm being too far fetched?

People go on about it, but I've never had an issue in any car. The only time I have noticed is premium vs regular petrol in certain cars.

Pretty much all the fuel south east of london comes from navigator anyway. Seen every branded tanker there filling. The base stock is all the same, its the mix of additives (from the load card) which differs.

Top tier posting this! I've never had an issue, except when I've had an issue.

The only difference between supermarket fuel and branded fuel, is the additives. The base fuel is the same, most likely coming from the same refinery.

I say this as chemical engineer who used to work in the petrochemical industry.

BP are the most egregious of the motorway gougers and their super is only 97 Ron. Their stations are usually the most dilapidated with rusted pumps....last time I had to use BP the pump covered my hands in petrol. BP can do one.

Esso is usually cheapest round here and has proper 99 super. I can tell the difference running 95 Ron in my JDM and I'm pretty sure the Texaco nearby sells 95 as super.

The price of regular petrol should have dropped to reflect the lower quality of E10 TBH. A lot of cars don't run as nicely on it, even though they are technically compatible.

The price gap to premium isn't that big at the moment, but you get more mpg so it pays for itself over time

This is my annual PSA to anyone running small two stroke engines to use ethanol free fuel if possible and if you must use 95 RON E5 unleaded, never leave any fuel in the fuel system if the equipment isn’t being used for extended periods.

Hmm but esso is tesco?

When pouring supermarket fuel it is red and smells almost like red diesel, where as from a decent garage its white and smell like petrol should.

I know a lot of you will just say I use it and it's fine no problems, but it isn't as good quality it's that simple. Don't belive me, just pour a litre of each into 2 jugs and you will instantly be able to tell the difference.
The petrol I use in my lawnmower or strimmer has never been red, regardless of whether I buy Tesco Momentum, Esso Premium. BP Ultimate, Shell VPower...

Funnily enough, even when I've added Brigg's and Stratton Fuel fit to it (which is Red), the Fuel mix is still not red.
