What do you think about BT's soon to be enforced 14.4% in-contract price increase?

I've just put my early termination in and will be moving to aquiss - one last twist of the knife from BT is they need 30days notice to terminate so they'll charge you the exit fee you've been quoted plus the extra month before they cut you off, guess i shouldn't have been surprised.

They put my early termination charge up nearly £90 in eight hours. Blamed their representative on typing error. Gave me a good excuse to lodge a complaint. Might take it to Ofcom just out of principle.

Our 900mb package is going up from £60 > £68 a month with around 11 months remaining. I'm tempted to cancel out of principle. I appreciate an annual CPI increase is baked into the contract but going up by an extra £8 a month is completely taking the mick.

I can get friends and family discount at Sky (forget how much it is these days). Standard price for Gigafast is £54.50 a month.

Zen £55/m with £15 setup fee.

Vodafone £45/m with no setup fee, £100 gift card and £67.50 cashback.

TalkTalk £49/m with no setup fee, £100 gift card and £75 cashback.

Shell £45.99/m with no setup fee, £175 gift card and £82.50 cashback.

Any other FTTP providers worth looking at?

Can't get Virgin, Hyperoptic or CityFibre.

It's looking like Shell unless the Sky F&F discount comes in decently priced.

Aquiss is £27.50 a month for the first 6 months, then £55.00, on a 12 month contract.

No CPI/RPI rises
Static IPv4
Static /56 IPv6
Excellent UK Support & CS

Ours is going up by £9.47 at the end of the month.
Still got 2 months till I can switch, was looking at giganet before but with the ongoing crappy support they got.
Options is only limited to openreach proivider though.
Now considering Aquiss and there price seems decent but they are not ispa and Ofcom Code of Practice member.

Something I'm quickly discovering is that most of these FTTP companies are ultimately owned by investment firms who have no interest in providing customer services - they want a cut and dried operation working from/to script.

We're moving to an fttp connection from BTs fibre 2 and it's still going to end up cheaper than if we stayed on fibre 2 with its imminent price increase so not going to complain!

They are also giving us a £50 pre paid CC as well so makes it an even better deal frankly! Paying £29.99/month for the new 150 fttp connection.

You do. Which saved me from having to throw the usual ISP **** in the bin.

I found the Plusnet Hub Two works well at 900/110 unlike the Smart Hub 2 firmware.

I was impressed when I looked into Aquiss after you recommended them on here but their help information said the BT/Plusnet routers don't work. I intended to switch as I was still in the cooling off period with BT.

As I was still in the cooling off period I was trying to find an alternative to accepting BT's in-contract price increase less than a month after my two year contracted started but it's done now. :(

It's not a case of Aquiss not working with BT and Plusnet routers, it's a case of BT and Plusnet routers being locked down to only work with BT-group ISPs.

So an interesting and frustrating development, BT have just texted me a new cancelation figure that 70% more than my original quote, on questioning this they said it was only ever an estimate and offered to drop the increase by a half - refusing to allow any escalation so i've asked for a deadlock letter and sent a polite, but annoyed, e-mail to BT's CEO so will see where that goes

That's both of us they have done that on. Blamed their staff in my case

Fortunately I’m out of contract with BT, and they were wanting over £70pm with the price increase.
Signed up to Vodafone last week for £30pm and it gets connected this Friday.
For no reason at all BT cancelled my broadband on Monday despite it being supposed to be staying live until Friday.

They came back to me a few hours later and agree'd to only charging the originally quoted amount - try kicking off (politely) with their billing department and telling them you want a deadlock letter generated if they won't honour the original quote. It may also be worth mentioning that you believe they were fundamentally misrepresenting the costs at the point you agreed to it.

I'm old. I go back a long way. BT have always been horrific, ripping customers off for everything they could get. Goes back to their monopoly days. They still have too much power in my opinion, although it is declining. It's interesting that they still haven't learnt any lessons from the competition.
Luckily for me, I don't have any of their services any more.

There are plenty of Openreach ISPs who do not have “Rate of Inflation plus“ in their contracts. Zen being one.

Oddly Zen keep decreasing their prices. Since I signed up for my "price for life" they have actually decreased prices 10%. I can now get almost double the speed for the same money. I am just hanging on to see what happens, though, before I bite.
