Hi, I am going to build a new PC for general use and photo/video work. I do want to play some modern games at 4k and am lucky enough to have a Samsung 4k 165Hz monitor.

Should I go Intel i7+ 4080 or AMD 7900X3D+7900XTX?

Budget up to £3500 but less is good. 850-1000watt psu and 2TB gen 4 M2 card and decent mobo with 2.5Gb and wifi 6E. 360mm cooler and am looking at an iCUE 5000 case. 32Gb 5600 memory ok???

Thanks experts.

Dave

Do you think a Ryzen 9 is a better choice than an i7 13700K?

My favourite thing about the X3D is the power consumption :o (article, 7950X3D versus 13900K)

Excellent info thank you all. Case swap for a 4090, very interesting thought!

Tetras, thanks for the good ideas in yours, I like the twin M2s. And the free Last of Us, as just watched the series.

i was being a bit facetious but honestly...the 7900xtx is a 4080 class gpu in nvidia terms, which is about 20-25% slower than the 4090
if you're running a 4k screen + high refresh rate, you would want the most gpu horsepower you can get...aka 4090 currently

I did get that thank you. I would like the 4090 as this is my first big PC build and hate to compromise, especially with my great screen. But I was trying to be sensible with the 4080, but then thought the Ryzen works well with the 7900XTX so worth a thought?
