My daughter had an MOT a week ago with a couple of tyre advisories.
  • Offside Rear Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing (5.2.3 (d) (ii))

  • Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge both fronts (5.2.3 (e))

She didn't blag the ticket, the car was dropped off the night before and picked up in the evening. How can a tester actually feel comfortable passing this? Some people will be grateful for a dodgy pass certificate but this is surely just dangerous?

That's a fail surely.
They were advisories. It did fail on these two which were repaired straight away and then it passed.
  • Windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid (3.5 (a))
  • Front Brake disc significantly and obviously worn (1.1.14 (a) (i))

And you let her drive on that for thousands of miles without any basic checks.

No washer fluid and bald tyres are inexcusable danger to everyone else on the road & deserve points on your license.

out of interest how is "cracking or perishing" coming under an advisory. I have no idea how the report system works are they drop downs or free text ?

She's an adult, I've told her to do these checks regularly, she doesn't live here, it's not my responsibility to do them for her.

guess they don't fit tyres on site, but do have washer fluid and disk fitting facilities... thats insane though!
She took the car to the local garage, they take it to the test centre, it failed, the garage took it back, did the repairs and took it back for re-testing.

Might be worth checking the rest of the suspension; there's obviously something off with the alignment, and if they didn't bother failing it for the blatantly dangerous tyres, there could well be other worn components they've missed.

Will reporting them not incriminate your daughter though. It’s pretty shocking to be driving around during winter with tyres that bad.

I would be amazed if that was the case because no one would report them. It would be back to the old days of a cheeky handshake and a paper signature
