My partners 2018 Jeep Renegade 2.0 Diesel has thrown an engine management light up but no clues as to what the issue could be apart from a 'Check Engine' warning when the car ignition is turned on. Car drives fine and the only thing we've done recently is topped up the Adblue with Yara Air1 from Halfrauds.

She has called the local Jeep dealer to book it in for a diagnostic and whilst they have said if it is a constantly illuminated warning light and not flashing, it will be okay to drive it the 30 mins or so to the dealer. But they can't book her in until the middle of next week. Which got me thinking.......are there any free, basic OBD apps available out there for iOS? I have a Carly OBD tool I use for my Z4, was wondering if I plugged that in and used a free OBD app if it would throw up any clues? More out of curiosity, really!!!

So does anyone know if there are any free OBD apps available?

The basic version of Torque and Car Scanner work fine though are a bit limited - IIRC Car Scanner found more stuff than Torque - it can show related codes, etc. which for some reason Torque won't see. (EDIT: I'd have to double check but I'm 99% sure it was Car Scanner - I keep an old phone as a backup in my car along with a cheap bluetooth OBD module (OBD Connect)).

I did try Torque but there didn't seem to be a way to try a 'free' version, it wanted me to sign up to a trial for 3 days and then pay in full. But Car Scanner worked perfectly, for nowt :D

I've not used it in awhile but should be able to get Torque Lite without any messing about - but I kind of got put off Torque with the way they were changing the approach to users to try and get them to pay.

How about obdeleven? its not free free but might be free enough for your needs? i've used it on my Octy to check logs without adding credits.

I’ve used this with a cheap Bluetooth OBD adapter and my iPhone on my Volvo V70 and it worked fine, I got the code I needed without paying for the full version but decided to upgrade anyway as a thanks to the developer, it was about £6 iirc.

Car Scanner.

I use it with a cheap OBD thing from Amazon.

Has worked on every car i ever used it on. Audi, Citroen, Merc

Just make sure you select the right profile for the car or at least the make

No, no Just make sure you select the right profile for the car or at least the make

This,

I had a few issues to start with when I first got this and was getting weird results, I then realised I was using the wrong profile…

It’s very versatile, I’m impressed with it, it does far more than you’d expect from a £7 app and £10 OBD dongle!
