Looking to upgrade my PC.

I have:

Intel Core i5 7400 @ 3.00GHz
8.00GB Ram
Acer Aspire GX-781
2MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
PSU: 80PLUS Bronze ATX, 500 W

Could i upgrade to:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Super
and 32 GB ram with the current PSU?

Here is the system i purchased:

If i have to replace the PSU is this even possible with pre builds?

Any help or suggestions or anyone that has this desktop would love to hear from you.

Thanks guys,

Appreciate any help,

Chris,

You can run both with your psu. The only things I would be wary off is if your motherboard has 2 or 4 slots for ram so you will need to check. Also if its ddr4 or ddr3.

If your just gaming just go to 16 gig as 32 makes no difference in 95% of games. Bare in mind that your cpu is from 2017.

Replacing the psu depends on the maker of the PC and if they use standard componants or custom ones.

Does the psu have a spare pcie 6 or 8 pin connector? If it does, then I think it'll handle a 1650 Super fine.

I googled the motherboard and it looks like it is probably a standard PSU (4 pin for CPU and 24 pin for motherboard?) rather than Acer specific.

Sorry guys messed up the quote options.

Thanks for your help with this - the motherboard has 2 slots for ram DDR4 - just an 8gb stick.
If i open the case and check the PSU - will there be anything to look for to see if i can replace?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks - i was worried about overheating.

I will open the case and have a look.

I think the PSU is currently:

80PLUS Bronze ATX, 500 W

Any suggestions on what to upgrade the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 too for better results?

Just want something that will handle the latest games easily on low to medium settings.

Thanks for your help,

If you're getting it for a decent price then a 1650 Super is fine. The highest I'd go with your CPU is a 2060, which you can get (12gb version) for £250 right now. Alternatively, RX 6600 (same price). Anything higher would be more likely to have issues with your PSU, or be too fast for your CPU.

Don't bother with a 1650: it's too little of an upgrade. The bang for the buck new GPUs right now are the Intel Arc A750 (£250), and AMD's Radeon 66xx cards (£240+).

Thanks for your help with this - the motherboard has 2 slots for ram DDR4 - just an 8gb stick.

Add in a second 8 GB stick. Try to match the existing one as much as possible.

Thanks,

Undisputed is the game i am looking to play:

System Requirements

  • Minimum:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 8 or higher
    • Processor: Intel i5 7500 (3.4GHz) OR AMD 5 1600(3.2GHz)
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: GeForce GTX 1660 OR AMD Rx 590
I think i will still be slightly off?

I know my chip is just off but could i make the graphics card and ram requirements?

Thank you sir!

Do you think i could run either of them without frying them?

My case is a prebuild.

Weighing up whether i am better off building from scratch.

I will check those cards out,

Thanks,

I know nothing about this game, but RTX 2060 or RX 6600 are both a lot faster than the requirements.

FYI: you need REBAR ideally for Arc graphics cards.

Just my chip that is a little old but it is only just off the requirements. Should make it? If i updated to 16gb ram and one of these graphic cards?

Like I said, I know nothing about this game, only what the requirements say. I did try to look for some user reviews, experiences or benches on reddit and YouTube, but I didn't find anything useful for a system like yours.

Looking at your cpu

vs the min recommended

The only difference is a couple of hundred mhz in base and boost frequancy. The chips are the same otherwise.

You can get 16 gig of ram for £40 new. It will also be good if you later upgrade to a ryzen or higher end intel (non-ddr5).

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £39.95 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Just get a second hand 2060 or rx 6600 and enjoy your new game.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £239.99 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Would be fine with your psu as long as it has an 8 pin pci-e power plug.

This is perfect!

Thank you sir!

I will double check my PSU tonight - both for wattage and the 8pin power plug.

Really stupid question - but is there any easy way of seeing what type of plug i have for the psu without unplugging anything?

I am going to do this and probably get a larger SSD as well.

Thanks,

Thanks for your help - i think i have the solution from @dfour (fingers crossed)

You shouldnt need to unplug anything as your current card doesnt use any pci-e power plugs so if you have any they should just be bundled up with any other spare cables on the psu.

Thanks again, will check this tonight.

I appreciate the help - going to give this a go and also set myself the goal of building a mid range gaming pc.
