Worth it? If i got the cheapest 7900xt with The Last Of Us included and I figure £450 for my unmined 3080?? So and extra £300 for the upgrade

I play COD but also fancy having a go at the Last Of Us, Cyberpunk, Witcher 3...

Decent enough upgrade if you've got an itch to scratch and not too bothered with RT, being a CoD player would prob swing it as you'd get a big boost.

edit - Not directly related but this may be a little useful (as the 6800XT performs v similarly to the 3080)

if you play at 1440p them games still run fine on 3080, have 3080 myself and at 1440p dont see the uplift worth it

decent uplift are 4080/7900xtx for me but not at current pricing , probably gonna hold out till next gen

Thanks. I kind of thought that would be the case. I use Adobe stuff quite a lot too so I would miss the Cuda Cores too.

The 3080 may struggle a little with RT but DLSS will help with that.

For a decent upgrade a 4080 or 7900 XTX would be more fitting, but as @uscool said the pricing is very poor. After selling my 6800 XT I'd be looking at £650 for the XTX or £800 for the 4080, just not worth it for a 50-60% uplift in my view.

The XT can be had for South of £800 which isn't terrible, but it's really a ~£600 product.

Regarding your point about the Adobe software, if using an AMD card, would that then mean the only option would be to choose software rendering, say for rendering a video in Premiere?

Not sure - all I know is our macs at work have old radeons in them and can't use hardware rendering, my 3080 at home can, and for h264 is between 5 and 10 times quicker

Definitively wouldn't bother for those 3 games you listed.

Only thing that might be a good reason to consider is if Vram on the 3080 is becoming a limiting factor for other stuff. What Resolution do you play at OP?

I'm on my 3090FE still and have no intention to upgrade for a while. 24GB of Vram was overkill at the time, but in the last year it's really starting to get used now by more and more games, and especially as I use VR and play modded stuff a lot.

Radeon ****e for creative. Job done.

edit - Basically says that AMD need to spend more on the driver teams to optimise for the creative side, not like they're short on cash atm raking it on from server products etc.
It’s more to do with NVIDIA getting ahead of the game and introducing a proprietary standard in CUDA.

I think some games use more than they need, I've never seen my 4080 use all of its VRAM, but pretty close.

That's because the 4080 has 16GB vram so it should still be fine for a while; the 4070ti with 12GB vram on the other hand already have some shuttering issue on games like Hogwarts Legacy at with higher quality raytracing turned on at 1440p and above.
