Terminal overheating... I think I know the answer.

was that just an example or it has a benefit over £20 amazon kits a fifth of price

how had expansion tank failed ?.. early bm3 series tanks failed due to temperature fatigue on plastic ... but the(3 series anyway) radiator cap should blow itself if pressure becomes too high.

I get stuff from a motor factors rather than online, as its trade stuff for trade people. Tends to be "known good" more than some random product off ebay / amazon I've never used or had experience with.
YMMV.

Another update. Thanks for the combustion leak test idea, didn't know those were a thing.

I found two issues with the car (excluding the main issue!) that was a small leak on the expansion tank and the raditor fan not coming on at all.

So i've replaced both, £12.49 for expansion tank and £54 for rad fan. Managed to swap both with very minimal coolant loss, but will do coolant in time.

Now it gets up to 80oC and then opens up (or whatever) and the temp takes a wee dip and then starts building up again. Gets to 105oC on the driveway, then the cooling fan comes on and brings it back down to 95oC-ish... so theres the answer to that. 105oC is the cooling fan activation temp for a mk7 2010 petrol Fiesta. So it going up to 117oC (and potentially beyond was bad, as we knew).

When driving the car it does the usual, sits about 80oC-90oC when on the move and then gradually rises when in stopped traffic.

Bubbles or boiling in the system (whatever was happening) has now gone. Oh yeah, done a compession test accross all 4 cylinders and all 4 were between 190-200PSI.

Flew through its MOT (except a very slight wheel buckle), so im using it for now and havent seen any water in the spark plug well at all... yet. Been doing a mixture of driving as I work in Glasgow, so motorway, start stop, town, etc. and checking everytime I get home both engine temp and looking for water in the spark well.

Quite enjoy doing the gears again, as the M140i does them all for me :D
