Looking to upgrade PC - Am I Way Off The Mark?

You shouldnt need to unplug anything as your current card doesnt use any pci-e power plugs so if you have any they should just be bundled up with any other spare cables on the psu.

I opened up the computer last night.

500W PSU so all good there.

For the PCI-e power plugs - there is a 6 pin - i think.

I have included some pictures below of what i found:

There are a few pics there but i believe the black 6 pin connector is the one?

I think you can get a 6 pin to 8 pin converter?

Lastly, there is one CPU cooler fan and one fan on the back.

I don't think i can install anymore - do you think i will get ok for heat?

Sorry for all the questions, appreciate your time and your help.

Thanks,

Yes the black 6 pin plug is for the pcie. Yes you can get an adapter to make it an 8 pin. I used one for ages and had no issues as I beleive both extra are earth.

Yes you should be fine with the extra heat. You can always save for a new case if it gets bad.

Yes, it is possible to upgrade your PC to an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Super and 32GB of RAM with your current PSU. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Super has a maximum power consumption of 100W, which is within the range of your 500W PSU. However, it is always recommended to check the specifications of the specific PSU model to ensure it can handle the power requirements of the new graphics card.

Don't bother with a 1650: it's too little of an upgrade. The bang for the buck new GPUs right now are the Intel Arc A750 (£250), and AMD's Radeon 66xx cards (£240+).

Add in a second 8 GB stick. Try to match the existing one as much as possible.
This.

Both the 6600 and A750 are over 100% faster than a 1650 while also having double the VRAM.

Thanks so much.

Just one last question - i promise.

Check out this video:

At 2:27 - Do you think the 6600 will fit this case?

I will of course measure but as a newbie to this - wondered if you could look and see whether it would work based on the video.

If all looks good - i am ready to rock!

Little update and a quick question...

I updated my ram to 16GB - I ended up getting:

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2133MHz C13 Memory Kit

My motherboard will not run anything faster than 2133 - but the computer is running SO much faster.

Just a quick question on the 6 pin pcie plug.

Below i have a 6 + 2 plug (image below)

I did order an extension but i am thinking i will be fine with this.

I have the RX 6600 on the way.

Really stupid question but how do i plug it in?

Do i plug in the "2" pins first and then the 6?

If that makes sense? I don't want to blow anything up. :)

Here is the pic:

Thanks for all your help guys,

Chris,

You will find if you try putting one in before the other then it becomes very hard to put the other plug in because of the pins on the 2 pin.

It may not physically clip in together but they will hold together as you insert both at the same time.

Thanks, i will try that.
The 2 pin might need to slide down the side of the 6 pin section, depends on the design.
It is in the picture above - although not the best pic. :) Thanks, i will try this way as well. I am getting there guys - Thank you.

I can't tell from a pic, it's just something I notice when I mess with them, but I've had both types, where you have to hold them together as dfour said and another type where you push the 2 pin up alongside the 6 pin and then it is fixed and won't get detached when trying to plug it in.

Thank you so much guys.

16GB ram and a Radeon RX 6600 installed and playing on High/ultra settings.

Very happy.

Just a quick note to say Thank you to you all - you have inspired me to build a pc from scratch.

I was a bit nervous about messing something up - but you all were a great help.

Appreciate it!

The PCI was just a hold together clip - glad i got a 6600 and not the XT as it would not have fit - but the cool thing is - if i build from scratch i can take the 6600 and use that.

Have a good weekend - Cheers,

Chris,
