COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Just stop making yourself look silly, even if covid is "just a cold for most people" (which it's not), you don't know until you've got it, and the second/third/forth/fifth time may be the one where it's no longer "just a cold",

Thats quite a statement given that millions of people have had it so where is your evidence to back up that claim?

Really not - I know dozens of people who've had COVID now and few have bounced back like a cold - sure it isn't long term debilitating for most but many have had a noticeable recovery period in terms of weeks or months. My boss used to be marathon fit condition and annoyingly motivated at work and for months after COVID he was barely making it through a day at work and completely passive management wise. We've had 3 people at work develop heart conditions medically linked to COVID - 2 of them temporary the other had a heart attack and is still toting a medical bag with them to deal with their condition. Many others clearly have taken weeks or months to build their strength back up.

You must just work in a very unhealthy environment because thats not most people's experience hence why no one cares about it so much any more.

Whilst COVID hasn't affected me or hundreds of my social circle other than a day or two of feeling a bit crap even I don't believe that COVID is just like a cold. However I also think it was over dramatised a little. However we've been over this before. I think the flippant attitude towards it is also not helpful

Yet you've just described it as like a cold for most people which is all I'm saying..

honk.....

In all seriousness, at what point does misinformation become dangerous....well when it can impact your health.

It's misinformation, honk honk

To be fair a good few of my co-workers are van/truck drivers who sit on their arse all day and smoke too much  but nah not a particularly unhealthy environment overall but I'm not just talking about work. I live in a rural area and most of the people I know around here tend to be outdoor/active types.

Besides the science shows unlike your normal cold/flu viruses this one is adapted to being able to infect cells found all over the body including several major organs - personally I had it infect my digestive system - if it wasn't for that the overall impact would have been fairly low - I was 75% over the classic symptoms by day 3 after they emerged though I suspect would have still suffered mild to moderately with fatigue/weakness for at least a few weeks after. I've never had a cold leave beau lines on my nails before or lose my sense of smell such that it took over 8 weeks to return to something like normal.

Out of interest are you clinically vulnerable? Or just hyper worried?

I don't mean that in an antagonistic way just genuinely curious.

I'm not clinically vulnerable but my Mum and Step Dad who I care for and now live with me are. So I'd rather not bring it into the house.

On a personal level I have suffered from anxiety my whole life, especially health anxiety. So the unknown of what covid might do to me if I were to get it means I'd rather do my utmost to not get it, as in my head I'd be one of the unlucky ones who it totally screws over.

It's not a big deal for me to be anti social either though, as I'm autistic and hate being anywhere near groups of people in noisy environments because to me that's like sensory torture. I get overwhelmed and start to shutdown.

Yes but just because you experienced different symptoms doest mean that most people have...

Why do you think no one cares about it any more? It's because they have had it and shook it off in a few days..

More I suspect because people have had 1-2 doses of it and rightly or wrongly think it is over - I know a lot at work talk about how they have natural immunity now and don't care about it even after having one bad instance of it.

Millions of people are apparently getting it every week so not sure why someone who has had it twice would assume they wouldn't get it again.

That's fair. If you suffer from anxiety your worry is totally fair and understandable.

Some people are desperate for it to "be over" I think just so they can believe they "were right" about a year ago.

The problem is of course it's out there now, so will never be over. It could mutate to be more severe, at which point even those desperate to shut down the discussion would have to admit it's not over.

I'd urge again, for the umpteenth time those deniers just start another thread, something like "COVID is over and I was right", and keep to that.

As above people want it to be over so that is how they interpret things. Generally people just seem resigned to it now.

The subforum has now been archived.

Please use this thread for all related COVID chit chat. :)

I think they need to pop in here with the grown ups occasionally to get a dose of derision. I assume it's a hobby for them, I mean why else post in a thread they say they have no interest in...

That response is fast becoming a lazy OC forum trope when you cant back up your argument with anything.

I doubt this thread could muster a PhD between you.
lol well that is wrong for a start.
lockdown wasn't a "good idea" the fallout from it will be with us for some time.... made far worse by the utter shambles that the NHS was in anyway even before the brownstuff hit the fan. however it was a complete necessity, at least before the vaccine had been rolled out double doses to all those at risk. beyond that perhaps there is a discussion to have I suppose where things could have been done better (schools back earlier for one) .... but everyone has 20:20 vision with hindsite.

but I am amazed we got through it as well as we did tbh given such bone headed ideas as eat out to help out or what ever it was to put us on the back foot again right after coming out of lockdown.

can you not remember the burning body piles in ..... was it India (truth be told am not certain and haven't googled) their hospitals were total swamped and that could easily have been us.

And yet your posts in here are usually littered with 'LOLs' so yes, I put you firmly in the troll pile and am surprised you've lasted in here as long as you have.
