Which M2 slot for boot drive

What's the best M2 slot to use on an ASUS Z790 board for a single NVME boot drive? Slot 1 next to the GPU interfaced to the CPU but a poor spot for cooling or one of the other slots having better airflow? I will be using a Nvidia RTX 2060 Super GPU.

Which board? Usually the top one, because it is connected to the CPU rather than the chipset.

Asus TUF Z790 Gaming Plus WiFi. The top slot is connected to he CPU but will be beneath the GPU card so not great for cooling.

M2_1 is between the CPU and the graphics card, underneath a heatsink.
