Got the AW3418DW 3440x1440p 120hz ips screen at the mo. Thinking of upgrading to the 165hz Oled version which has freesync instead of gsync. These 2 gpu's are very similar in terms of current performance and obviously I currently have a gsync screen at the moment. If I keep whichever gpu for at least 2 years, what would be the better option? seems to me they both perform quite similarly at this resolution and I can't seem any decent 4k oled options at the moment to considering going to 4k... I only feel tied to Nvidia because I've never owned an AMD card, and my screen has gsync etc..

If you value RTX DLSS, and fancy DLSS3, used to Nv software, the 4080's premium should keep you going for more than 2 years.

If you want to try something different, the cheaper faster raster gpu is the 7900XTX.

Same choice here. I am interested in the 7900xtx. I already have the QD-OLED, the DW3423DWF, so whether the 7900xtx works well with that is very important to me.

For me, it doesn't come down to ray tracing or DLSS. It's entirely whether the AMD drivers are as good, and of course it must work with the freesync monitor.

4070 now imo to get you by til next gen plus you retain Gsync

The AW3418DW works with Freesync. There are just a few quirks with some monitors, especially the one he wants - the AW3423DWF. Actually, thinking about that OP, you would be safer getting the AW3423DW. That is known to work with the 7900xtx. I suppose you could always get the F and then, if it has issues, exchange it for a non-f. I am sure Dell wouldn't mind too much if you did that.

My choice would be the cheapest 4080 which at the time I bought mine was the reference version. Then you have the FSR/DLSS options in games. Not that you need it that often but Hogwarts did in places with everything maxed plus it was nice to test the Path Tracing in Cyberpunk.

As for the Dell OLED 34" UW specifically. The DW has slightly more accurate HDR calibration + 144 Hz 10 bit mode if that matters plus the +10Hz refresh max. The F version can be firmware updated and has a console compatibly mode I think.

F + AMD GPU should cheaper though.

I briefly had a 7900XTX with my Dell G-Sync OLED and it worked fine until it overheated :(

As others have stated I believe both the Dell monitors will work with Freesync with slight differences between them.

Either card will give a similar experience in rasterisation performance, just up to you whether the £100 or more difference is worth it for access to DLSS and better RT performance. Both cards are currently overpriced in my opinion though.

Thanks all this is my exact train of thought. If I did just pick-up a 4070 for now, when are we thinking the next gen stuff would likely be released?

I had the same dilemma and ended up ordering a 4080 to go with a DW3423DWF on the weekend. It was a toss up between the 4080 and 7900xtx and it came down to price in the end. There was a new Palit OC 4080 going for 1k which, while still eye wateringly expensive, was cheaper than I could get a 7900xtx for.

The unfortunate truth here is neither card offers good value and both perform similarly.
