Misaligned motherboard stripped screw

Have had issues installing my MSI MPG B650 edge WiFi into my Lian Li Lancool 3.

Initial installation attempt was a couple of mm out of flush with the back of the case.

Thought I had corrected it, but I think it's still ever so slightly out as getting the graphics card in was a pain.

I tried to unscrew it to get it completely flush, but one of the screws obviously went in wrong and have managed to strip it, when I have got it to turn it's making a metal clicking sound.

Currently my plan is leave it as everything works but that's not a particular good plan.as I intend to replace my graphics card in a few months and the screw that won't come out is one that is utilised for installing the anti sag bar.

Most of the options online seem to be very risky when done with a motherboard rather than a piece of wood.

So from the above I'm guessing one of the case motherboard standoffs has unscrewed and is turning under the motherboard hence the clicking. You could remove the other screws and take the motherboard out to remove the standoff and screw that should come out with the motherboard.

How to fix it depends on how messed up the standoff or case hole are. You may be able to re-install the stand off as it was simply loose. Another screw may go back in. Though it may be worth running a screw in and out of the standoff before you re-install it.

Ah interesting I hadn't considered that.

Will give it a go in the next few days and see how I get on.

If you're lucky
And it's one of the accessible standoffs
Gripping it with needle nosed pliers while
Unscrewing the screw usually works
If not as mentioned
Unscrew all the other screws first
Then do that one and the board will come out
Along with the standoff
Sods law though usually it's not one that's
Reachable with the pliers

If you have any spare standoffs for your chassis and have access to that specific standoff behind the motherboard plate then tighten the spare standoff into the thread thats going through the motherboard plate, hold it with a pair of pliers and then unscrew the screw. I use a specific standoff tool to do this. If you want to do it properly undo all the screws and then to take the messed up one out just pull the board gently while you are unscrewing the screw/standoff. Then get the pliers on the standoff and unscrew the screw and replace the standoff. I had a big batch of Fractal chassis that the threads were messed up and would strip really easily and had to do some right messing about.
