I'd say it's pretty much vanished from our news, it's obviously still a thing and doing the rounds, but presumably with deaths falling inline with the common cold it's a bit of a non-story now.

What makes me laugh is he thinks because I'm a Boomer lockdowns didn't affect me, during lockdown I lost a lot of weekend work gigging, nobody gave me 80% of my gig money.
However it was a sacrifice I was willing to make without moaning like a little girl because in my day job I knew how important it was.

I am in awe of your sacrifice. On behalf of the nation - thanks for surrendering your pocket money to the cause. Seriously, 100s of thousands of people were made redundant - whole industries shut down.

But you gave up your pocket money. I'm pretty sure I know who sounds like a little girl here.

and you had to give up your FREEDOM.
It's unbelievable that you really don't have any idea how many lives were saved because of lockdown.

I'm out now, it's like trying to debate with Skipper.

Okay.

https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.06.24.20139196v2

20,000 during the first lockdown. 11 March to 7 August 2020.

How much did we spend as a country during that time. Overall the cost of the pandemic was about 400B GBP. Lets assign 10% of that to the period of the first lockdown.

So £2,000,000 per head. (Mostly elderly poeple)

Bargain!

Your pocket money is'nt going to stretch very far.

We get it, you preferred people to die, we now know what you're on about.

We estimate that to 7 August, lockdown saved 17,700 lives in England and Wales, or just under 20,000 extrapolating to a UK level.

Death v Redundancy?
Obviously death in your opinion.
What a lovely lad you are.

I wonder how many people will die because their treatments and early screenings of life altering diseases were essentially put on hold for 2 years.

i guess more than 20000

Certainly was an interesting point in History.

(We have zero patients at my Hospital with covid related illness.)

You're almost there - but not quite.

How many people are dying because of the cumulative effects of multiple lockdowns?

Missed cancer appointments, the life chances of kids missing large swathes of decent education, suicides and depression linked to (yes) redundancy, the list is endless.

Why do you think the average death rate in this country is higher than its been in decades?

Unfortunately people like you can't seem to understand it was not a zero sum game.

I 100% know it wasn't a zero sum game however you're the bloke they gave the pistol to on the edge of the mass graves in WWII.

Again it's very easy to come forward in time and see what has happened but at the time it was the best decision.
it might have been better in the long run to have let the Germans just invade us.

Absolutely, you preferred people dying, I hope your parents are proud
So by this reasoning, are all the people that will die because of the outlined reasons, post pandemic, your preferred choice? Just had to be that way.... Hindsight blah blah...

Damn you're cold and calculating. The guy standing on the roof with the can of zyklon B dropping it into the shower.

You seem to like War Crime nazi/soviet execution parody. :p Boy in the striped pyjamas, great film. Makes you think.

No of course not, it's called hindsight.
At the time lockdown was the way, we had no idea what it would lead to including me having 4 cancelled operations which was actually very minor compared to what 100s upon 1000s went through.
Like I said, in hindsight it may have been better for us not be in WWII and let Germany take us over.

I wish you wouldn't use the WW2 analogy's.

That in mind also guess the next serious one will wipe us out because covid 19 was a relative walk in the park or as you might prefer a "Battle of France" ;)

all in hindsight... of course...

I apologise, a bit over the top.
Also apologise to esmozz
No worries.

Funnily enough, due to being made (yep you've guessed it) redundant due to the pandemic, I wound up managing a Covid19 test center until thankfully I could go back to my old job.

We would get our fair share of crazies through the door, mostly people who refused to believe that the virus existed at all.

I remember one particularly unpleasant and aggressive lady who accused me of being a Nazi, saying I was coming to get my comeuppance at Nuerenburg. All for trying to get her to wear a mask.

I now appear to have been called a Nazi by two people at completely opposite ends of the covid debate.

Only one apologised though, so fair play.
