Menu freezes with any recent Radeon drivers

This is very annoying. With any of the past 3-4 versions of the AMD video drivers I get freezes in almost every game. Never during actual game play - always when opening the map, quests, menus, inventory, etc. I tested the latest drivers today and it happened with AC Odyssey, HZD, Asseto Corsa and even ancient old Supreme Commander. I've tried nuking drivers with DDU in safe mode and then installing, and I've tried letting the AMD control panel do the update. No difference. When it happens I can get it going again by alt-tabbing to the desktop and back to the game, or doing a ctrl+alt+Del and then canceling - so the game isn't frozen as such...it's like it's lost focus. The only drivers that this doesn't happen with are the ones that came out last autumn. They work 100%...but I don't want to be stuck with them forever!

Windows 10 fully updated. No overclocking whatsoever. Latest chipset drivers. Machine is 100% stable during any stress test. So weird and frustrating.

Any ideas?
Sapphire RX 6600, Ryzen 5600X, Asus Prime B450 mobo.

What applications are running in the background? It's a PITA but if you haven't done it already it may be worth trying a clean OS install?

I'll try that. TBH I think I'll end up sticking with the older drivers if I have to disable a major feature to get the newer ones working properly

Supreme commander what a superb game. Anyway like what’s been said above it sounds like to me any other application is stealing the focus of your game. I would go through your installed programs and get rid of as much as possible. I would also go into global settings and enable Radeon chill to put a frame cap in. Some of the menus can have insane frame rates.

Supreme Commander freezes in the main menu after playing a round, but only ever after playing a round, and pretty much every time. Nvidia GPU. I just put that down to being a very old game.

Dunno about the other games, usually with things like this there is a conflict with other software using the GPU or UI monitoring software like MSI OSD, also if you have something set in the GPU's drivers that's different to something set in MSI AB that might cause it too....

Classic game... Its still brilliant.
