2021 Season Chilli Growing

mine still inside at moment. got about 12 in total came through. jalapenos currently the biggest but habaneros arent far behind. will go outside in a few weeks.

Yeah I'm bringing mine inside at night, will proably keep bringing them in until they out grow the pots.
Then I'll have to put them in the bigger pots which I dont have room for inside...so hopefully this will coincide with weather getting better!

Smaller fruit each year i guess, but i still get plenty from it, its Fatalli hot, so only need a little chilli in my con carne, one of the best tasting chillis in my eyes.

what soil are people using ?

I'm using this at the moment, mixed with a bit of sharp sand and some pea gravel at the bottom of the pots. £7 per sack, or 4 sacks for £20 at my local garden center.

Main thing i've read is to avoid peat based composts as it doesnt drain well and chillis like a more well draining/sandy mix.

Semms to be working well, although, being manure based it does smell a bit like a cow shed for a few days till it airs off.

I've had to move my seedlings back indoors from the Green Tent in the garden... somethings been eating them and I'm not having that after all the agro of getting them to sprout in the first place!!

Anyone know what could cause the leaves to curl like this?

Seems to nly be affecting one of my plants, they are all in the same compost?

Ignore the puprle tint, the chilli is purple prince.

@mattyfez Possibly overwatering or general poor drainage

Good call, I repotted that pot and the bottom was sodden despite the top 2 inches of soil being pretty dry.

Gonna buy some perlite and some more sand to mix in.

Suspect it could be an issue for the others too but they are not that bad, not even close, so dunno whether to see how it goes with them and do a better mixture for the final pots, although they are not doing much growing, I repotted a red missile for comparison as it was damper than it should be at the bottom, I think, maybe its just coping better being a different veriety.

Ok, so Ive repotted the two worst looking ones, with additional sand and perlite which I didnt put in before.

See how they go I guess, but teh roots hadnt even ventured outside the plugs which suggest they were not happy at all with the mixture. I put the plugs into these small pots about 15 days ago.

Hey guys, looks like I am a bit late to the party. So pleased to still see this thread going!

I'm keeping things pretty low key this year. I have 2 small plants (variety unknown, lost their labels!) that have been kept in the house in a kind dormant state for ages. Re potted them and been hardening them off and after being a bit grumpy some good new growth is coming through now. I have also put seeds in (late I know!) for 3 other varieties: Kashmiri, Hainan and White Birds Eye.

Growing everything in soil this year in fabric pots, not going too high litre as I don't needs loads of fruit (got preserves and powders a plenty from previous years) and I want to keep the plants at a nice manageable size. Just want something decorative with minimal maintenance.

I learned the hard way with my self watering tubs a couple of years back those plants can turn into absolute monsters and become a part time job to look after.

Might try crossing a couple of the plants at somepoint. @Daytrader great to see you active.
