It was an article in The Telegraph. Today's edition I believe. I have seen the figure of over 50% of American voters against ongoing involvement cited elsewhere, multiple times, make what you will of statistics, we all know how reality can eventually show their real worth.
Ah so you've took a headline figure and ran with it. This is the issue with your generation and being pioneers of tabloid press.

One can always tell when an uncomfortable truth sinks in here by the strength of the insults thrown in fits of pique :)

I think when people start dreaming in hope that Trump might be re-elected and save Putin they are well past the point of the uncomfortable truth setting in.

What disturbs me most in just how much you want it to happen.

well Zelensky contemplating a populist appearance at eurovision isn't for the older types - the concern of a premature Ukraine counter-offensive to please foreign support not either.

I think China is getting frustrated with the war actually - Ukraine has been a partner in defence development, energy and agriculture as well as a larger supplier of certain raw materials to China.

I suspect China thought that the conflict would be over fairly quickly one way or the other, possibly even interested in it as a litmus of how the West would react but now it is more of a problem for them than anything - hence their change in stance in voting on recent resolutions, etc. they probably were betting on it being business as usual, potentially even more so their advantage if Russia took the country, well within 2022.
Well, China loves our economy. How many billions are being sent now for their products..

Without the West, China would not be a superpower. And they know this.

edit, missed your point then a tad

I have just been reading an interesting article which to me very realistically claims western support has peaked and with European and US elections looming it will soon start to reduce if nothing conclusive imminently occurs.

Over 50% of the US think they're spending too much on supporting a region of no strategic importance to America and people in Europe are facing huge energy and food bills due to the situation. Parties fighting forthcoming elections are very aware that support at grass roots leaves is waning because of the economic pressure Russia has created in return for their supporting Ukraine.

The conclusion was if things don't come to an end by the middle of this summer, and it's something Mr. Putin is well aware of, support will fall.

A change of US president to De Santis or Trump, one of whom seems likely to get in given Biden's dire ratings, would probably end support virtually overnight with the inevitable results given the US are supplying 90% of the important stuff to Zelensky.

US elections are 18 months away and Ukraine will not be big on the agenda unless it goes very badly for Ukraine. MAGA are the ones who believe in supporting Russia over Ukraine, not normal Republicans. Which is why when Kevin McCarthy was asked the other day about sending weapons to Ukraine he said he fully supports it.

Trump's ratings were worse than Biden's and his disapprovals are still shockingly bad. DeSantis is dead in the water.

This should have been Ukraine's Eurovision to host and Zelensky is a popular / renowned actor. If you've watched any of the televised coverage, this is basically a Ukrainian event but hosted in Liverpool.

To be clear, he won't be appearing on Eurovision but I can understand why he may have done.

I think older people tend to be pragmatic, dreams are more the way of the young. Whether Trump or De Santis gain the White House next is outside of our control here. Dreams and wishes will make no odds.

anything can happen, i would not have bet a £1 on Trump ever being president in the first place, even if i was offered £100K return on my £1.

After Bellingcat corrected Elon Musk and pointed out that the latest maas shooting in the us was carried out by a neo nazi, Elon tweeted that Bellingcat is fake news psyops.

Elon then personally shadow banned Bellingcat from Twitter

I'm not sure pragmatic is the word I'd use it tends to have connotations of open mindedness but I find older people tend more often to be set in their ways even if life has made them more realistic, sometimes too jadedly realistic.

In the final weeks of the campaign, I came to believe Trump had a decent chance. I was a little surprised he won, but not shocked.

I don't think Trump's chances are good in future, unless Biden eats a baby on live TV.

There was a lot of resentment against the traditional establishment leading up to Trump being elected and it seems to be rising again - despite the touting and big headlines of "successes" the average person on the street in the US isn't feeling the benefits under Biden and once again I think the population are more likely to turn to a less conventional figure, but I think there will be a substantial percentage of once bitten twice shy who won't go for Trump again.

Sounds like Ukraine is finally starting to gain some ground again. Fingers crossed this is the start of more to come. Allegedly heavy armour seen finally moving in too. They just need the Russians to break again. With Russia focussing on Bakhmut, if Ukraine can break them there it could push the frontline significantly.

What Ukraine is being sent has been a little quieter of late, but let’s hope we’ve all still been arming and ramping up production. Surely the tanks and training is all well on its way by now.

Most of the sources are dubious Russian ones so a bit unknown at this time, Ukrainian sources are mostly keeping quiet and neither confirming or denying.

Russia will never say Ukraine is gaining ground around literally the only area Russia has made any progress in months, if it got to the rest of the front the risk of weaknesses opening up everywhere is probably rather high.
