Hey guys,

I'm in the market for a tablet. Something I can watch videos/movies on a plane journey, browse internet, use office 365 for work emails and may e light gaming.

I was keeping an eye on the new Pixel Tablet but don't think this will suit my needs for the price. I don't have much of a budget.

I had been looking at the A8, for around £160, which looks okay for my general needs.

Is there anything else you would recommend?

TIA

Depends what light gaming is but I would imagine that would be the heaviest thing out of all the requirements you listed. A8 is pretty weak. Can you stretch to a S6 lite?

Light gaming, things like legend of mir 4.

S6 lite from a quick Amazon search is like double the price of the A8, don't think I could warrant £350 on something I'm probably not going to use that much.

Do you have a link to the game? For some reason I'm only getting MIR4 which does not look like a light game at all, and will hammer the Unisoc chip in the A8.

If you ignore the gaming part however rest of your usage should be fine. I would be tempted to go for the 4GB RAM version if you can for longevity reasons, 3GB is pretty tiny for Android these days and even 4GB is just about the bare minimum I would go with. Bare in mind it does mean going for the 64GB storage model... but even then there are variants of both 3GB and 4GB RAM.

Tab S6 Lite on the bay readily available for £230 new (SM-P613 or SM-P615 is what you want, not SM-P610)

Cheers all.

MIR4 is the correct game btw, plays fine on a OnePlus 6

I'll check the bay.

Even while it's fairly old, the OP6 uses a Snapdragon 845 which destroys the Unisoc Tiger T618, especially GPU wise. Not to mention it's got twice the RAM (6/8gb). The SD 720G in the S6 lite does a lot better, although still a little behind the 845, but will be playable.

Cheers pal,

Bidding on a few on eBay around £200 mark, hopefully can pick one up cheap!

I recommend to go with Lenovo Tab M10 Plus for £149. Now it's in discounted price in Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B1588GJ6

I've just grabbed a Nokia T10 4G for £109.

I know it's not the best or the biggest but I want something similar to that of my old Nexus 7, but more current and up to date, just to watch videos, browse etc.

Nokia seems to be a bit more reliable with updates to compared to Lenovo. Just a shame the UK gets stuck with the 3GB/32GB version and not the 4GB/64GB variant the rest of the world gets!

Great. One I mention above has 4GB ram and 128GB flash drive.

I would be careful with that though. Seems the LTE and WiFi only versions uses different chips: https://www.gsmarena.com/lenovo_tab_m10_plus_(3rd_gen)-11711.php

WiFi version would be close to the Unisoc in the A8. SD680 would be better but for gaming the 720G has more GPU grunt which would suit OP's needs more. Looking at the product page it seems to be the WiFi version.

Uses a weaker Unisoc chip than the A8. Perfectly fine for media and browsing, but not gaming.

Yes you are correct. Mediatek MT6769V/CU Helio G80 (12 nm) is a big downgrade from Qualcomm SM6225 Snapdragon 680 4G (6 nm). But I feel it is still worth for£149.

The Samsung Dex is also appealing to me, not sure what Lenovo can offer in that respect.

I think I'm set on the S6 lite (2022) as a mid entry into the tablet world.

I've not owned a tablet since the Nexus 10!

Yeah I'm aware of better options for a little more money but I was after something smaller than 10" and unfortunately there's not a lot of choice.

The T10 seems to be the best there is. There's the Lenovo M9 that's slightly better in terms of CPU, but I wouldn't touch Lenovo purley because of their poor software updates.

The T10 will get Android 14. (12 out of the box) and 3 years of security updates.

Again. I just want a basic streaming/browsing device. The added bonus of 4G in there too for just over £100. Can't complain

Just managed to grab an S6 lite P613 listed brand new unopened for £150 on the bay.

Seemed very cheap but can't see anything "off" with the sale page or feedback.

Hopefully grabbing a bargain and not a con!

You will be more than happy with the S6 lite. It a world away from the A series. I had a tab A7 as I liked the smaller size, and it was Ok, but could get laggy.
Bought 3, S6 lites for the family during an Argos sale (£259 each) and could not be happier. Difference is night and day. Great tablet for the money.
Try and make sure you get the 2022 version.

Enjoy.

FWIW, Would not have a Lenovo tablet given to me. There software support is horrific, and some of the hardware is garbage. Burned once, never again.

Thanks,

The product code is the 2022 version (P613) and can see that code in the images provided. He also confirmed it's new, unopened and the 2022 version via PM.

Was listed for £160 so thought it was the 2020 version but upon inspection it's the 2022, so I did a best offer of 150 which was pretty much instantly accepted, bizzare.

Let's see what turns up lol!

If you go with any Tablet and phone manufacture apart from google you won't get latest Android OS updates soon. It takes time. That's why I'm using Google pixel.

The samsung updates are not bad. Not Pixel level (I have the 7) but not bad.
Also, the tablet version of android is great. Only little tweaks, but they make a difference. (May need a couple of updates before you see this.)
You will know, as you get a toolbar of common apps and open apps. Whilst you are using chrome for example.
