Our work..........on a site of over 1500 people there are maybe 10 paid chargepoints. They are 14p a kwh so obviously everyone likes them.

site etiquette is move once charged, but regardless of if full or not you get a max of half a day, and you must move your car at lunchtime if you got a morning spot.

Seems simple enough and in an enclosed place where people may recognise you people would stick to that right? wrong!.

1st thing in the morning a car in front of me - one of those plug in hybrid big mitsubishi things took a charge point. 2 people got out and walked away, not charging their car. odd, but maybe they needed to borrow a cable or something.

however i was showing my new car to a friend at 4pm yesterday and.............. the damn car was still there (still not plugged in). people are so bloody selfish...... definitely a trigger for me.

if i see them again and they dont plug in i shall offer to lend them my cable to save them going to find one to plug their car in (wont be any use to them as they are chademo i think but still hopefully they will get the point).

i reckon they park there because they are in a convenient spot and also pretty big spaces - the ... outlander is it? is a pretty big car so i could imagine it being a squeeze.

Reminds me of someone at work getting annoyed at a PHEV using the only working charging bay on a motorway services for over an hour when he just needed a quick top up to get back on the road. Public charging can bring out road rage in the calmest people.

Just wait for when the real rage comes when you actually need to charge and its blocked by someone not plugging in or a car that doesn't have a battery.

Surprised no one has mentioned defecating through their letter box yet though. Do you have internal mail? :D

I dunno, the chargepoints are for all EVs and whilst it may be good etiquette to charge to 80% then leave etc etc so long as they are charging then fair enough imo..... but using the bays as parking spaces when they are so rare and not charging at all is pretty off. Security sweep the carpark but only go after those filling disabled spaces. They cant be bothered arguing with EV users.

lol.... yeah ICEing i do not get for one i wouldnt dare do it as i imagine there would be a high risk of getting your car keyed if you do it. I guess those with the mentality to do that probably only do it in old bangers.

It is still selfish to charge to 100%, especially in a PHEV and in the only working bay. It seems to me (as a non electric owner) that life as a Tesla owner would be much better then other EVs when doing motorway miles.
 
Get to work earlier, steal their spot.
Luckily at a petrol station people move once they've finished filling the tank.
 
I must admit i used to use the free chargepoints at Tesco and what not with my PHEV, if the spot is free and its free to charge then i'd happy plug in for the time im there.

I did have a couple of red faced EV warriors have a go at me on occasion.Thing is, i'd have happily moved if they asked politely, but when they are abusive and come across entitled....nah. one time a very nice bloke pointed out that i was plugged into a 22kw charger, i didnt really twig at the time, i was more than happy to move.

Work chargepoints will have to be policed, now that there a lot more EV drivers, the days of mr tesla having the chargepoint to himself are long gone. It has to be fair usage for everyone, even PHEV drivers.

I very nearly bought a tesla purely for that reason. had the model Y come out when the model 3 did (and so the costs be similar) i would definitely have chosen it. not for the car, the styling of them does nothing for me, but their charger network is so much better (how can it not be, they get all the other charge points and their own ones on top)

the model 3 is not practical enough for us and so that left the model S................. and to be honest i decided i am just not a confident enough driver to take one of those barges around narrow country roads and some of the villages i live around....

(mind you the ipace is massive compared to our old nissan QQ as well)
 
Try to remember the biggest problem for any EV owner, is other EV owners. Don’t charge at public chargers unless you need to and if you do be prepared for problems like you described.

Don’t get me wrong, many fellow EV owners are friendly and decent people but the chances of meeting one of the increasingly common inconsiderate moron* EVers out there is still very high. You were unfortunate that you met one on your first attempt.

* This is normal and not unique to EV owners.

Happens with everything - we've got a big drama at work over similar kind of lack of giving a **** when it comes to shared work cutlery, mugs, etc. (personally I just keep my own set in my locker) a good percentage of people never wash it up behind them, or even put it back, etc. or end up with several discarded mugs near where they are working over a few days they've neither bothered to return let alone wash and so on.

we used to have a name and shame thread at work with people taking photos of terrible parking and posting it round with the number plate on the photo.

however a number of the named and shamed filed complaints that it was against their rights or some bobbins so it was banned. a real shame, it always gave us something to gossip about, some of the parking was proper shocking (at a time when much like the EV charging issue, there were too many cars and not enough spaces. (COVID solved that issue as most of us WFH a few days a week now)
