I will soon be switching from an aging 1 series to an iX1. We have a set of Winter wheels from when the 1 series was new which have proven useful. Assuming the offsets work, does anyone know if the weight of an EV means alloys designed for ICE cars are unsuitable, assuming offset and fittings are correct?

The iX1 I believe is ~2000kg and the alloys were sold as an accessory for a 3 series touring with a weight of 1750kg. Needless to say BMW have no clue.

Many thanks

No issue at all, but there are EV specific tyres which will wear better given the weight.

Slightly off topic but I wander if we will ever see the death of the alloy wheel given the obvious aero advantage offered by disk wheels?

Alloy is the material that enabled fun designs. So they may still be alloy due to weight saving versus steelies but yeah more covered face designs or the in vogue pattern is those plastic clip ons.

Have you checked the overall wheel rolling diameter on both cars? They need to be basically the same which I'd be shocked if they are.

Also the 1 series vs iX1 bolt pattern looks different.

I would need a tyre with a larger sidewall to bring the rolling diameter into an acceptable tolerance. Specs on the IX1 wheels have been hard to come by but looks like they have a different PCD offset so my idea is out of the window. Thanks for your help
