New tablet wanted

If you go with any Tablet and phone manufacture apart from google you won't get latest Android OS updates soon. It takes time. That's why I'm using Google pixel.
I disagree with that.

Samsung are on the ball with updates, sometimes quicker than Google.

The Nokia T10 is on April security update too, they've been released fairly swiftly.

Samsung are quick with security updates on phones, less so on tablets. Major OS updates are alittle behind though, compared to Pixel devices at least.

That said, I'm not sure it matters. Major Androird OS version rarely include anything exciting these days, and this is even more true when it comes to Tablets. Stock Androids tablet feature set is poor and Google are playing some serious catch up to the big players on "old" android version.

Samsung is faster to release Custom Android OS updates. But Google devices are getting Android updates as soon as google release new Android updates. Google devices uses stock android and there isn't anything to change before push to devices.

Yeah I know how the whole update system works for various manufacturers.

For recent versions of Android 13 at least, it's been more exciting for tablets. Been using LineageOS on my Tab S5e and recent updates introduced more tablet friendly features, some which was showed on the Pixel Tablet/Fold. That said Samsung did a good job with OneUI.

I am after a tablet for my mum. She has about 300 quid to spend and I would like for her to have a 128gb version as her old hauwei one only had 16gb and if she installed more than a few apps it would keep coming up with an error and had to keep clearing it. It did have a sdcard slot but for some reason you could use that for storage but not as an extension of the onboard storage. Anyway I am assuming that Samsung S6 Lite is the one to go for? Is there an official case that has a keyboard/touchpad to make it into a little laptop for her should she need it?

TIA.

Got the S6 lite, from the bay brand new for £150! :)

Typing from it now with the case and keyboard, in dex mode, brilliant!

Looks like he got it free with a VM deal and not realised there was a 2020 and 2022 version, so i snapped it up really cheap.

Tablet is really good, games work pretty well, very happy !

Thats a good price well done.. think i am going to order my mum the 128Gb S6 Lite with the free cover (That for some reason is supposed to be £60  )

Good deal indead, i was worried it wouldnt be as described. It's spot on though.

Got a USBC to USB adapter today and have my main wireless keyboard, mouse connected. Spotify going while browing the web and outlook open. Dex mode works decent enough for some WFH and a quick desktop experience.

i'm already hungry for a larger screen ha!

If it's like my S5e you can also use a USB-PD hub with HDMI/DP out and basically use it as a full on desktop. Granted a lot of apps are still unoptimized for mouse/keyboard but Samsung did a lot of work to ensure their own apps works well.

Unfortunately when i try to order that deal they have the tablet in stock at one store in Derby and the Case in stock at the other but i cant apply the code unless they are both collected from the same store..

Not sure the s6 lite can connect to external display?

Huh it doesn't, would've thought being a newer model with the S branding it would have. Looking further it seems the S6 lite is actually a tier below the S5e (no OLED, USB 2.0 only, etc). It does however have better S-pen support.

I've managed to connect it to an external display via samsung smart.

It's okay for usual desktop usage.
