I'm looking for ideas on replacing a small ugly wall in our garden that separates a 40 to 50cm drop down to a main lawn and green house... Anyway..
It's about 10m long and I'd guess the wall about.. 50 to 60cm high. So we can use the "top" side as a raised bed.

Anyone done a low height but long gabion basket wall? Too much effort for little visual?
Remember I'm looking for something that can take the harshest of winters and deal with freeze/thaw conditions lol

It sounds like s very over complicated, expensive solution to a low problem?

I cant picture your wall in my head. I think Im still half cut. You can help with the cost by putting bags of cheaper stone at the back/middle then using your expensive stone/rock for the face/top. Put the cheap fill in sacks making facing the gabion easier.

For these sort of questions I usually goto the Patio & Drives Landscaping Group on Facebook. Someone posted a link quite a while ago on this forum and the group has been an immense trove of info when designing and building my patio area.

He's wanting something like this https://www.gabion1.co.uk/uk-gabion-baskets-mob/

Out of the images on that website there's two trains of thought with the gabion design. 1. Chuck a load of stones in or 2. Sort the stones a bit better at the front for the aesthetic. The baskets and stone will be cheap enough it's more the time to achieve whichever look you're wanting.

I wouldn't consider it a difficult job and one that if you sped up the build up of soil and plant, could look nice.

Hell of a coincidence. We were riding our bikes this morning and I said let's go through some side neighbourhoods to get some house inspiration.

There was a guy making his very own walls right there and then. Must have been a construction worker cos he was tying up his own boxes.

We had a brief chat because my Swedish sucks but I got some tips and pointers and the builders yard he sourced all his rock.

Still looks like a fair amount of hard work but could deffo just case the wall in good looking stone and the rest in rubble or less costly filler.
