Final Fantasy 16

played through last night and really enjoyed the demo, prefer the darker theme to more recent FF games

really hope they sort out the performance mode though, it's fine in some areas and boss battles but my god the fps dips. Graphics mode 30fps just feels awful in 2023. Just surprised that a game of this budget has poor performance when graphically it's not even the best looking

Just playing through the demo now. Wow. Pleasantly surprised. The graphics are amazing. And the story seems to be good ! (Coherent)

Played through maybe half of XV, and was pretty lost.

Is is made with the same engine as Forspoken ? Performance on that title was poor too.

there's a few articles saying it's a different or maybe new engine this time. Think they used the same engine in FF14/15 and Forspoken then Unreal for FF7 remake?

the team working on this looks really good. Yoshi-P who kinda saved FF14 then also the combat director from devil may cry 5. Combat should get really fun later on with more skills and moves, should be very different to previous pretty avg FF combat

Oh that is controversial but it's definitely up there for me as well. I think it would translate to a remake better than FFVII in some respects. There's a lot of atmosphere there that modern tech could really bring to life.
Yep, 7 packs a hefty punch of charm through its models/animation style, whereas 8 would suffer less from modernisation.
Never heard someone be so wrong about anything before :D IV is obviously the best.
Thing is, for me it was likely a perfect timing situation. I got it on my 11th birthday and I was/am a bit of a romantic. This means that I was wide open for the two main themes of coming of age and romance. Plus, loads of my mates in school had it too so tips/secret sharing was rife in school.

Looking forward to this, but going to wait for a price drop. £70 is way too much IMO. Soon as it's down to about £45 I'll grab a copy.

Story in VIII was pretty good to be fair, it suffered from a terrible levelling system and the god awful draw mechanic. However triple triad remains the best mini game in the entire series. Although the chocobo mini game in IX comes close.

I'm probably going to wait for a port on the PC for 16, it looks fantastic I must say, but I'm still not enamoured by the combat systems, but this one seems to have gone down a slightly different route.

£70!!!

£70!!!

Although I understand the headline figure is a little !!!!-worthy, £40-45 in the 90s (cost of Ps1 games) is £90-100 nowadays.

Graphics mode is 30fps with an extreme motion blur when turning with what seems to be dynamic res, performance is all over often going outside of the PS5s limited VRR range. Maybe they will sort it out in the release?

Only FF game I have played was VII and had no idea what was going on in this prologue/demo, why did the boy turn into a bird? Who are these people?

Cheap as chips if you have a Turkish account ;)

Played the demo through now including the Eikonic challenge. The challenge isn't that challenging but it does demonstrate where some complexity can come into the battle system as you can switch between attack sets/elements.

But in the demo the elements didn't really matter, so the strategy is just to cycle through the movesets as they recharge as fast as it lets you to get the highest damage. I'm assuming in the full game they will make you use this more strategically at some point (but this is evidence-free speculation of course).

Almost finished the demo and it's 100% a day one purchase for me, love final fantasy and really enjoying the fast paced nature of the battle system in this.

Finished the demo and I really enjoyed it. Have a pre order.

The only thing that is really really bugging me is the camera snap. When I’m moving and to look around (outside of fights) the camera constantly wants to aggressively snap to behind Clive. Really annoying.

For those who have played through the demo, does it feel like a Final Fantasy experience, or a DMC experience?

Basically a lifelong FF fan but I've gone right off the boil with this one, not sure I have any major interest in it at this point. Hoping that changes!

I think the only thing disappointing for me is the apparent lack of elemental relevance? Like when fighting morbol I thought throwing a fire its way might do something interesting but nope, does the same to it as everything else by the looks of it which is a bit disappointing as I thought they might carry that kind of FF staple across.

Either way I'm still 100% getting this.

Honestly, I’m a turn based chap. But this game plays fantastic. And the graphics, are pretty damn good too. The enemy models (goblins) were jaw dropping for me. Just give the demo a go. No harm if you end up hating it.
