Are they all the same or are some better than others? I've got 2 in the house, 1 looks brand new and the other the chrome has rusted a little at the bottom and the chrome plating is starting to come off.

Likely to be a chrome one that goes in.

Thanks

I had a chrome towel rail in my first house, cheap B&Q job and I went through two replacements under warranty through lin holing and corrosion.

In this place I went for stainless steel and 7 years later still going strong. Definitly worth the extra.

We went through 2 or 3 cheap towel rails over a few years and we eventually changed it for a Myson, it wasn't cheap (£600) but it was vastly better in terms of build quality and ability to heat the room, worth every penny imo.

Towel rails are dreadful for boiler efficiency FYI. They basically create a bypass in the system, and you drop no heat over them, creating a high return temperature back to the boiler.

If I were replacing mine, I'd get electric ones and run them for an hour every day just to get the towels dried off.
