Final Fantasy 16

88 on Meta.

A couple of anomalies with the reviews, Euro Gamer seem hell bent on bringing it down.

People are very fond of it, it seems.

Interesting take that someone mentioned on Reddit was how the performance has brought down some of the reviews but TOTK got a free pass on those points, because "Nintendo". I can't say I disagree.

Getting this tomorrow.

Eurogamer appear to have went for the "shock" review score to get some headlines, it is a fair outlier from the bulk of reviews on meteoritic. Reviews are very subjective to be fair, I know from the demo I'm gonna go headfirst into and will likely love it

Annoyingly I did go to their website because of it, so, I guess it worked :(

Something about diversity that they're bitter about, allegedly.

Their Digital Foundry Review actually has a fair amount of opinion about the game itself and seems glowing.

ACG says buy... then I buy!

Hmmm. I'm really not sure about this at all. I mostly enjoyed the demo but the lack of the open-worldness factor and the limited RPG elements are putting me off. I think I'll wait for it to drop to 40 spuds.

It has no "people of color" in it - so they cant give it a good score. This is the website that didnt review the Harry Potter game for #reasons so its just a normal day for them.

Suprised DF reviewed it as John Linneman threw his toys out the pram and refused to review Harry Potter and the head honcho had to do the review like a week after release.

The most consistant criticism i've seen is that the side quests are a bit boring. I'm happy that it's not fully open world as i'm bored of that format.

Looked up the game's structure and progression and it's somewhat like I had predicted, 20h of good story and another 20 of it being a rather poor RPG with weak sidequests so definitely not preorder material.

No open world is actually good, sick and tired of that but it all depends on how natural and fleshed out the "corridor" areas feel.

Will play for sure at some pointbut there's so much to play that I'm in no rush at all.

I used to rate them but the HP thing just killed it for me. I am done with them.

Ouch, 720p lmao

But for some reason DF crew seems to like the nauseating motion blur in this game. I'll have to wait for a PC release to play this game properly

Played through the demo tonight and loved it. I was gripped to the story which is rare for me. I was going to play at midnight but I've been struck down with man flu and tired so I will try the full release tomorrow.

Lmao western reviewer gave the game a low score because he said it's racist.

The game is set in medieval Europe and the Japanese developers decided to be historically accurate, and the reviewer didn't like that and wanted black people in the game

720-1080P, ooof

Performance:

- Quality mode: DRS 1080p to 1440p upscaled to 4K
- Performance: DRS 720p to 1080p upscaled to 1440p. Combined with TAA 'doesn't look great'.
- The game seems to be using FSR 1, not FSR2

- Quality mode looks fine but Performance mode is 'kind of a mess'
- Shadow quality is dropped and has more dithering in Performance mode
- Distant enemies run at lower frame rate in both modes

- DF tested with day 1 300MB patch
- DF recommends playing in Quality mode. 99% lock with properly paced frames
- Patch does not fix the performance, only negligible changes
- Performance mode often falls below VRR range to low 40s.

- As soon as you enter battles, the performance often maintains 60 because the game drops internal resolution to 720p

- All cut-scenes are locked to 30 regardless of which mode is chosen.

- DF recommendation: start the game with Quality mode so you don't have the jarring transition from 60 to 30.

As usual with day-one "performance" patches, I guess.

I knew what was up as soon as I played the demo and saw the smeary visuals and performance so glad I decided to wait on it, I'll let others betatest for full price:P

I'll wait for the pc release

Have you seen the last few releases from SE on PC? You be waiting a very long time if you want it to perform better than the PS5 version.

But if the plays well, who cares about the technical details? Most people dont notice unless someone such as DF points them out.

Some people are just dumb:rolleyes:

I was thinking more along the lines of playing a fast paced fighting game and how that transfers over to being better with a higher frame rate. Elden ring for example is terrible on the ps5 but great on PC due to higher fps
