London Hotel advice - Saturday

Me and my wife are off to see Pulp at Hammersmith 'Eventim' Apollo on Saturday.

Usually it's 30 minutes back on a train from Liverpool Street to Chelmsford, but due to strike action the last trains are leaving before the gig even finishes (Tube running fine)

So I'm now thinking I will need to drive in, and get a hotel overnight.

Options are:

Hotel near(ish) the venue either with parking, or at least a secure car park nearby. It doesn't need to be anything fancy as long as it's clean/comfortable/quiet.

Or

Park at Stratford overnight (a lot easier/quicker for me to drive to) and a hotel over that side of London, nearby.

in which case any suggestions?

I'm a total *****.

Id pick whatever travel lodge, or alike, was closest. 1 night, all you need is a shower in the morning :p

To Stratford that is.
You can live like "common people."

If the tubes are still running and you were previously happy with getting a train in and back then I don't see why you'd not still consider taking a train if staying overnight.

Then you're not constrained by having to find a hotel with parking nor does it necessarily need be by the venue, could be any central London hotel that makes sense between Liverpool St and Hammersmith.

For example, you could just grab a travel lodge near say Kings Cross for like £100 for a night... tube back on the night of the gig and easy enough to get the tube to Liverpool St the next day too.

(I'm not saying necessarily get that one, just giving an example as basically anywhere central near a tube station that can get you to the venue one way and back and to Liverpool St the next day would be convenient for this).

We’ll see you there :D

Can’t help with hotels, and no you can’t stay at mine. I certainly wouldn’t recommend going anywhere near Stratford on a Saturday night, let alone staying there!

If you’re feeling flush the Hoxton in Shepherds Bush is probably lovely, I’ve stayed in a couple of those before.

I can’t imagine anywhere is going to be affordable at this short notice. Can’t you tube out quite far and get a taxi?

Now that the Queen Elizabeth line is running, I can tube out Shenfield, but that will take over an hour and then still leaves us 20 miles from my house.

Also it looks like a reduced service after 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.

As @dowie says, for sure will be easier to get the train in still rather than driving. You'll be lucky to find a hotel anywhere desirable with free or even affordable secure parking.

Grab the cheapest premier inn you can find near a tube station between Hammersmith and Liverpool St, as unless there's also tube/tfl you can easily get back to it then see Oppenheimer and and get the train back in the afternoon.

To be honest your leaving it a bit late notice to book a room now for this saturday for a decent price, i would expect if your booking now for this Saturday it would be expensive, I wouldnt expect a room for £60-80 given the short notice, your probably looking around £120 - £180 or so for a night I recon

When ever i go to london (not often) always try and book in advance where possible as the earlier you do it the cheaper the rates will be, obviously it wont work for last minute room bookings though, i usually stay in either City of London area (aldgate premier inn or tower bank premier inn), last time i booked well in advance , back in the day i used to be able to get a room for £40-60 a night, now i think in advance i could get them for about £60-80 a night depending on the day and if there is any big events. Seems to be a bit more post pandemic and during this cost of living thingy.

I just tube it round then

I never drive around central london either, i either get a train in to paddington from where im coming from and jump on the tube, or , park near a zone 5 or 4 tube station and then get the tube in to central

I know, but we weren't aware of the overground strikes until about 8-9 days ago :(
Did you book the Premier Inn at Ravenscourt Park? That was ~£180 so I'd doubt you'd find anything cheaper.

Also FYI the weekend email from TFL is saying both the Piccadilly and the District lines are closed. Although the website currently disagrees. Worth double checking nearer the time. Bloody typical, I book a rare gig on my side of town that's super-easy to get to/from and then they close the tubes that weekend

I live 2 miles away from there, this is my roost. You can book a hotel at Travelodge Fulham for about £140 for the Saturday which will have parking, and it's a 5 minute bus ride to the front door of the Apollo. Right opposite the hotel is Fulham Palace which is a nice little afternoon walkabout for free.

Oh and hit me up for a beer, like I said you're literally in my back yard so you're gonna hafta come up with one hell of an excuse not to :D

You had to leave near me.That is all I need

Btw do not stay in that Travelodge Fulham, it is on a nasty smelling road. Forget any hotels along that road.
