7900XTX or 4090?

My wife went nuts last night when I said I ordered the XT, but not for the reason you think... She was ****** off I settled and didn't just get the best and asked I swap it for the 4090.

I messaged Support to ask if it was too late, it wasn't. Slightly OTT Zotac 4090 inbound :-)
Had a feeling you wanted a Ferrari.

It was always tempting but deep down I knew not really worth another £800. I "let her" talk me round last night lol but she was very insistent. I'm both excited and think wtf have I done this morning lol. But I know it'll last be a good while too. Obviously the 5080/5090 will beat it next gen but the 4090 should hold its own for another generation or two, even at RT. Plus DLSS is there for backup if it doesn't begin to struggle after a few years. Should get 5+ out of it. I hope...

lol just make sure the room you have the pc in is well ventilated, and make sure your case airflow is setup right, you'll soon know when you go out of the room after a while gaming on the 4090
out of intrest what case you rocking?

If it struggles in a few years just turn off ray tracing :D

Once you got clearance from head office ( the wife) that's all you needed and I'm sure you made right choice.

Enjoy Brother.

Be Quiet Pure Base 500. Two 140mm intake front, and two 140mm exhaust, one top and one rear.

I have space for one more exhaust if needed.

Will probably undervolt a bit too.

I ordered a 4090 FE from Nvidia today, hopefully arriving tomorrow.

Damn shame that OCUK can't deliver this instead of a competitor who shall not be named. Especially as I had to order the cable from Ocuk for my PSU for the 12V thing.

Hoping my 850W Seasonic titanium can keep up with this one OK, don't really want to bin a good PSU if this works as is :)

All depends which CPU you have, 850w is on the limit for a 4090, if you drop back the power limit to 85-90% you may be ok.

5900X, plan to drop back the power limits a bit, typically do anyway. 3080 TI currently caps out around 340W or so, and that seems fine.

Don't power much internal stuff like hard drives, just the 1 NVME etc, gives a little more headroom for the rest of the system.

Stock the 90 can pull easy 450w under load in heavy games like cyberpunk, worse if you use a custom 3/4 8pin to 16pin cable, I did for a few weeks and saw transient spikes over 600w which is a bit scary, even at 33% power target it was hitting a good 240w sustained, you'll have to play around to find what works

This is the cable I went with: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/seasonic-pcie-5.0-12vhpwr-psu-power-cable-black-ca-08f-ss.html

Looks like two 8 pins directly to 600W max on the card.

Will have a play about, worst case scenario it's new PSU o'clock but hoping current has some life left in it yet!

The 2 8pin to 16pin cable will limit the card to 450w at stock if you up the power limit on the card you may see close to 500w pull, stock the card is mega fast so I doubt you'd need to push it even at 4k

Hoping for efficient and good without the need to push the card limits or increase the power, so quieter/less heat/less power long term is my goal, without sacrificing most of the performance.

Don't think I'd be happy with it drawing more than 450W anyway so that should suit my purposes.

Should last you a few years at 1440p enjoy dude!

Thanks. Yeah, bit overkill for 1440p but it should have a long life! I'm on AM5 too so have the possibility of a CPU upgrade too if it ever ends up CPU limited. Got the Zotac warranty too.
