Hello, I am currently looking forward to upgrading my operating system as I am sat with an old i5 6600k that has been very unsuitable for the newer titles. My current budget is 300 pounds and for the past few days I have been significantly struggling on determining which processor is more worth the money, which I hope you guys can help me make the right decision. Here I will discuss what my needs are of this cpu so that I can make the better choice easier to make.

I have been aiming to purchase this hardware at pre owned condition as the prices tend to be significantly lower, compared to amazon. I am consistently finding the Ryzen 7 5800x sat at around 150-160 pounds, with the b550 strix motherboards at roughly 100 pounds, costing 250 pounds in total. On the other hand, ebay sells i5 12600k for a higher price of 190 pounds with an asus prime b660 motherboard ATX sat at 100 pounds, (I don't mind having entry level mobo), costing a total of 295 pounds.

The type of games I like to play are mainly fps shooter games such as warzone 2, fortnite, apex, etc, as well as some heavy demanding games such as god of war, horizon zero dawn and cyberpunk. I have no intentions of running any heavy demanding multithreqded applications such as for editing videos or stuff like that, I just want to ensure that I have the better cpu for the best frames and low latency.

I will list my current hardware in case useful:

Gpu: rtx 2060 strix oc 6gb (planning to upgrade to rtx 3070)
Cooler: nzxt kraken x53
Case: nzxt h5 flow
Ram:ddr4 8x2 3200mhz corsair ram

Their gaming performance is pretty similar, I doubt you'd notice the difference. The 12600K is maybe a bit easier to optimise, but it's not important.

(I don't mind having entry level mobo)

FYI: OCUK sell new entry level motherboards for both CPUs that are within your budget, like these:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £248.98 (includes delivery: £7.99)

If you take an entry level board, it may not be able to handle a higher spec CPU later on should you wish to upgrade by dropping in a CPU. Select wisely and try to get a decent amount of connectivity...M2, USB 3, etc
