So, the old runabout has gone to the car dealership in the sky (no fault of my own, I hasten to add! She was parked..)
She was a 10 or 11 years old when I bought her for £2.5k in 2014. During our time together, I averaged less than 3k miles a year, purely for recreational use at the weekends. But even with my low mileage, I couldn't live without a car. It's Cornwall, many places have 1 bus service *per day* (in one direction only, can you believe that?!)
Anyway, the same-model successor to the particular car I had, that is now also ~12 years old - prices start at £6k for 100k mileage examples. You want the same mileage mine had (<70k)? More like £8k.
I'm finding it really, really hard to stomach these price rises. A 3x price rise in < 10 years.
If I wanted to pay the same again as last time (or slightly more, say £3k) it seems I'm looking at 20 year old cars. That's insane. The govt keeps telling us to scrap cars that old..
There is a point to my rambling, and here it is.
What would OcUK buy for my usage? Ideally ~10 years old and not absolutely knackered, or having a billion miles on the clock. Reliability and comfort being king, as I drive elderly people around and they all have hip problems and can't stomach a firm ride. Reliability because I'm not made of money, as you can probably tell
Any thoughts appreciated.
