Upgrade 2080 to 4070 with 3600x worth it?

Rig from 2019: Asus 2080 OC (will be sold), Ryzen 3600X watercooled @ 1900 flk using full 95w, Teamgroup 3600 c16 2x8GB @ 3800Mhz, Asus TUF Gaming x570, 2x gen3 3500MB/sec RAID0 (only get 4200MB/sec), 850w PSU.
Play games on 4k TV using black frame insertion to eliminate flat panel blur so a locked 60fps is important. TV supports freesync but 2080 is only HDMI 2.0B.

I like Cyberpunk but with RTX it's getting tricky hit 60fps at any resolution as GPU is always maxed. Considering the 3600X would a 4070 help much? Getting a Ryzen 5700x as well is beyond budget atm.

Do you want max details, native 4K (no upscale) and ray tracing?

If the answer is yes, a 4070 won't even come close and with DLSS, I think you'd find it a lot easier to lock 60 fps with a 4080, in terms of the compromises you're making.

There's lots of videos on YouTube if you want to compare detail levels, upscaling, frame generation, RTX on/off and the kind of fps you'll get.

Really like Ray Tracing. Upscalers are a must & I usually try high settings with 1440p if necessary. 2080 is showing its age now.
Also looking at Radeon 6800 to 6950xt but concerned about RayTracing & upscalers.
UE5 with nanite etc is the future huh

Not impressed with reviews of 4070 esp how 4070ti is much faster.
Looking at 4070ti 12GB or RDNA3 7900xt 20GB. NVidia looks £80 more expensive with better RT/upscaling but considering I'm playing Cyberpunk on a 2080 with RT at 1440p I'm wondering if the 7900xt can hack RT & is better future proofed with 20GB VRAM.

There's plenty of videos on YouTube with Cyberpunk that you can check out, to see how it performs.

Seeing as RT seems to increase VRAM usage, I'd expect it to have superior RT in many games, within the lifetime of the card.

Figuring out if the old 3600x can feed a 7900XT enough to get a locked 60fos in Cyberpunk with RT.
This screenshot is 1080p with RT with 2080 to test when the GPU is not maxed & a locked 60fps can't be hit. I know a different GPU will be like apples to oranges. The CPU appears near max on all cores & the odd core does not boost to 4.4 like other games. What are your thoughts guys.

Was thinking a Ryzen 5900X & 7900XT but this upgrade has now doubled in price as don't see the improvement from just a 4070 as worth the effort. A saving I will do so hopefully the GPU don't increase in price too much & the AM4 platform is still catered for in Nov. The resale value of 2080 will continue to fall but less than interest on credit lol.
I know 5800X3D is better for games but thinking 4 more cores be better future proofing.

Ok, finally some proof at 4k the results will be more GPU bound from 'Hardware Unboxed'. Comparing apples to oranges here as the 3090 is similar to the 7900XT but maybe with a Ryzen CPU things won't be so bad. I'd be happy with 60fps 4k med-high no AA with RT in games. ATM only way the 2080 can do a locked 60fps is at 1080p med low RT with current Cyberpunk patch. Funnily at 720p maxed on ultra RT with path tracing it gives 40fps so goes to show how resolution has an exponential effect on the GPU.

Just pulled the trigger on a Saphire 7900XT & going to collect today as live local to Overclockers (back when it was Millenium in the Celeron 300 days).

The 5800X3D is just a complete work horse when it comes to games. Unless your doing a whole bunch of video editing you will never make use of these extra cores in a substantial way.

I'll see how the 3600X keeps up until next pay day  The Windows rig is purely for games as I think Windows & office is so buggy I prefer put an old macair m1 on a monitor.

Guess what chaps. Cyberpunk still won't breach 58fps with RT at any quality setting, so either the 7900XT is as quick as the 2080 with RT or the 3600X is well, old. Some raster games do well at 4k but I'm underwhelmed & that's coming from a 2080.
Looking at reviews of the 5800X3D as advised & it kicks the rear in games & comparable to i9-12900KS

Cyberpunk is hard on the CPU. Have you tried turning down the 'crowd density' setting? When I had a 5600x, it was given a lot of room to breathe by setting it to 'low'. One of the early updates that improved NPC AI also started tanking the CPU when there were loads of NPCs on the screen.

R7 5800X3D installed & it runs hot even on water.
Cyberpunk still barely hitting 60fps at 4k RT. Guess RDNA3 RT is a bit naff atm, maybe UE5 will be better & take advantage of the 20GB VRAM. I'll just play it at 1440p
First test Cinibench20 3600x single core 492 / multi 3582 but 5800X3D 578 / 5338. I know it's meant for games but still a significant uplift.

Use PBO2 to tame it.
