However, he's absolutely devastating on the counter which is how we want to play, so hard to leave him out. He needs to evolve his game a bit and create more for others.

Except for when he just runs and runs until he either runs into the keeper or goes out for a goal kick

I can't go too hard on Marcus - where would we be without his goals last season? He's just not a number 9. He doesn't have the physicality for it despite looking like a bit of a specimen. Glass Martial actually holds the ball up better and has more strength under pressure. Quite a few times last night he (Rashford) was hustled off the ball and threw his arms up in the air as if it wasn't fair. CF's get kicked, pushed, pulled and worse and you have to give it as well as take it. He's knows he's better on the left and hence why we've bought Hojlund.

I find Rashford perplexing. In interviews he says all the right things about attitude and so on. But then on the pitch he just looks like a teenager throwing a strop at times and huffing about the place. Yesterday as per @Calpol comments being an example.

I know Bruno does it too, but he actually puts a proper shift in each game.

Rashford on Monday was exactly like how he was for Ole's games. He hasn't really developed.

Last season was a case of observably him simply putting his foot through the ball rather than thinking it through. He still plays the same, selfish, head down, run, pass or shoot through obstacles. There's very little awareness or tact and it's very limiting in a game that revolves more around an 11 pulling their weight.

He's a problem (albeit not the biggest) but i have a bee under my bonnet because he'd be damn great if he just worked on his game and got his head up. Instead I just see someone of the Ole era, works on what he's got and throws a huff at others despite him being one of the poorest in the team for wasting possession and opportunities.

He's been in the first team for 7 years now and I honestly couldn't say he's gotten any better.

Granted I've skimmed these for some reassurance I'm not completely off but the stats apart from goals scored last season appear to show he's gotten worse and really hasn't improved at all over the last 4 seasons*...

I will counter myself to say that there is an element of him occupying an opposing team by 'being a threat' and free space up for others... but I actually really doubt other teams pay him much attention when prepping despite the media interviews that focus on "how're you going to stop him"... I certainly wouldn't...

(*I've even ignored 21/22 for the mess of a season it was for him and the club on the pitch - and should say I'm certainly no stato so I'm sure other people will see other things i don't...)

This is the fundamental issue with Rashford. Hes fantastically one dimensional and when things are going well for him he bangs in goals. He bumbles past players and things come off for him with that 20% of luck he needs. When things aren't working out he is crap, doesn't contribute to the team and skulks around the pitch like Neymar and Mbappe.

He doesn't beat players with skill, he kind of goes through them a lot of the time. Its instinctual rather than technical. This is why I would have been happy to sell him after Oles final season. I know he was vital for us last year but hes simply not anywhere near the quality of the top top players. The saving grace of course is that we didn't pay anything for him so overpaying his wages isn't such an issue.

I just hope that having a proper CF will give him some more space and he learns when to pass the damn ball. If you gave me a choice between Rashford and someone like Son I would take Son every day of the week. Hes just so much more rounded.

Absolutely spot on Fez. I suspect he'll be as effective as last year when we have Hojlund in the 9 but it'll be interesting to see how the new player adapts. If Hojlund starts banging in goals we'll be less reliant on Rashford and I wonder if Sancho might be the more subtle and better partner off the left.

I've said it before but I really have a lot of respect for ETH's approach in understanding that he can't alienate the players/squad. He's picking his moments to change things and remove Ole's players and I wouldn't be surprised if we see Rashford phased out of the 11 in 2 seasons. I think the starting 11 (apart from Bruno and maybe Shaw) will have changed by the time we get to then.

I agreed with everything in the last few posts until this ‘phasing out’ part. I can’t see them phasing him out after he just signed a huge 5 year deal. It shows they’re keeping him there regardless unless he really does completely go off the boil.

I mean phased out of the starting 11 and into a squad player. He's a decent squad option... the only thing i think stopping ETH from doing that will be board pressure due to wages and marketability... And Rashford would not be happy naturally.

Ronaldo seemed like a marker in the sand that ETH has the authority but i think Rashford is a different conversation in terms of his 'value' to the club which under the last leadership appeared very much lead by this. Maguire being an example, I seem to recall Rojo (and perhaps Bailly) making comments that Ole made to them which reflect those decisions.

Statement from Manchester United just now regarding Greenwood:

Following the dropping of all charges against Mason Greenwood in February 2023, Manchester United has conducted a thorough investigation into the allegations made against him.
This has drawn on extensive evidence and context not in the public domain, and we have heard from numerous people with direct involvement or knowledge of the case.

Throughout this process, the welfare and perspective of the alleged victim has been central to the club’s inquiries, and we respect her right to lifelong anonymity.

We also have responsibilities to Mason as an employee, as a young person who has been with the club since the age of seven, and as a new father with a partner.

The fact-finding phase of our investigation is now complete, and we are in the final stages of making a decision on Mason’s future.

Contrary to media speculation, that decision has not yet been made and is currently the subject of intensive internal deliberation. Responsibility ultimately rests with the Chief Executive Officer.

Once made, the decision will be communicated and explained to the club’s internal and external stakeholders.

This has been a difficult case for everyone associated with Manchester United, and we understand the strong opinions it has provoked based on the partial evidence in the public domain. We ask for patience as we work through the final stages of this carefully considered process.

With how it is worded, he’s totally being reintegrated and coming back.

The club have released an immediate statement.

It reads to me like he'll be coming back...

Without doubt, put everything else aside and look at only business, as long as they felt they could manage the PR and it wouldn't hinder their sponsorships etc he was coming back.

All fans, pundits, journo's etc are going to be brutal. I'm not sure how he will be able to handle it.

I think it will mainly be the fans. I don't think that you can start throwing around accusations as a media professional without opening yourself up to a whole lot of trouble.

You don't need to say anything, when you have a recording on hand.

Passing any sort of judgement on someone who has not been taken to court and judged is a dangerous game. There is a reason why discussion on it was banned for a while even on a forum like this. We will see but I don't think they will say that much.
