Which 4090 - leaning towards the Ventus

To be fair if its only when you mute the tv it shouldn't matter to much, outside of quiet scenes. One thing with Asus coil whine, is it often reduces quickly, unlike usual CW behaviour.

My test is Elden Ring. If it coil whines in that is a bad card, if it doesn't its a good one. It's kind of a half way game in terms of work load.
That is what I am hoping for. I really don't wanna go through the hassle of sending it back. I won't always have it in my living room with it being 2 meters away.

It will eventually be right next to me at ear level in my office and about 20cm away, hence why I am being a little sensitive to it.

Is there a particular part of elden ring or does it just whine asap in game play?.

But yeah, you will have to let me know how yours sounds when you get it.

So of all the 4090's Ive had only 2 have whined in Elden Ring, just in the open world. Similar setup to you max 4k Native on a 4k 120hz display.

EVERY card has been brought down by Red Dead 2 though. So if it whines in Elden Ring its in the bottom third of 4090's.

Have you tried over clocking it yet?

I did mess around with the power slider a bit from 80 to the max power limits and applied a moderate overclock but it remained the same.

I'll have to buy the game and see if it whines. I would test red dead but would also have to buy that too.

I recall Asus using new chokes on their newer batch of cards due to people complaining about it but there is no way of knowing if it's the revised version or old stock.. except if it had the revised power conenector I guess..

Well mine will be here Saturday. Id imagine we have units from a similar production run, so there may be some similarity.

If I can't hear it over my audio I'll be happy, swapped too many, cant be bothered anymore. Plus we got it for a great price. I think the fans in quiet mode only go to 29db, which is excellent.

Yeah, I suspect so. It was kinda obvious with the surpim as they were out of stock and people were reporting the revised connector, however I rarely see the Asus Strix out of stock, if at all.. I think the last time I did was when they last had this promotion on.

That's what converted me from the Suprim. It has similar thermals, It's bit more quiet and it was substantially cheaper.

I'll keep monitoring it and see if it goes down as I game more on it.

Oh, I even switched profiles to see if that made any difference but didn't. I must admit, I could not hear it in performance mode, let alone silence mode and that's with 800 rpm 140mm be quiet case fans.

Yeah, even with sound on at a reasonable level I can hear it from the sofa..
Sounds like the 4090 ventus I had from them lol, even my surround sound had trouble drowning the coil whine out, question is are you happy paying all that money to hear it from that far away, I know I wasn't.

Coil whine is normal- exchanging cards to find the perfect one is very tiring.
I have no doubt about that, however even with TV on reasonably high volume it can be heard.

If it was the case that I couldn't hear it unless muted the TV.. fair play but it's not. I will still stick to the original plan and see if I can reduce it by gaming but if it remains like this. I'll be sending it back.

Sad to hear it’s that loud. Hopefully heavy gaming will bed it in and calm it down.

Ha, just checked and yup they've put most of the prices up. Except the Ventus which is OOO.
Looks like I timed that well.

I'm guessing they make their money by people forgetting to pay off in the no interest period then hitting them with a huge interest lump sum.

Is this OCUK with the huge interest or a different store ?

Oh dear, that's not filling me with confidence for tomorrow at all lol. I have the same PSU. I've heard enough to see how it stacks up to the rest. Have you got it in quiet mode? I heard that lowers the TDP if that helps at all.

I tried both and didn't make any difference.

However, yours could be completely different.
