Since multi-GPU setup hardly get any love these days in new games and in the drivers, I am looking at parting with my trusty old RTX 2080Ti NvLink setup and just settle for a single card.... something that falls me a bit difficult since i've been an avid SLi user since the days of 3Dfx.... but times change.

What would be a sensible upgrade at this moment in time ? I am not looking to spend hundreds or thousands any longer on graphics cards. RTX 4080 / 4090 are out of the price range I'm willing to pay. I am looking at AMD RX 6950 XT and RX 7900XT, but i'm unsure of the latter is worth the higher cost. I can get a bundle with a XFX RX 6950 XT Speedster MERC 319 with a 1TB Kingston NVME SSD for £590 or a Sapphire Radeon 7900 XT Pulse Gaming OC for£760.

What would your thoughts and recommendations be ?

7900xt as the raytracing is better and it has more ram
That is right, but I am not really sold on ray tracing, i think the visual fidelity is still quite mediocre compared to the general performance loss. So normal rasterisation is what i look at.
However, the question to me is the 7900 XT worth the extra £170 in pure performance for today (not tomorrow).

If you sell both the RTX2080TI cards it should about cover the cost of and RX7900XT AFAIK. The RX7900XT should have longer driver support and FSR3 support(if that matters to you) but the RX6950XT is better value for money.

Been looking at upgrade from a single 2080ti
It's actually not that easy to decide
At 1440p my 2080ti still does the job

6950t is reasonable choice
7900xt is also tempting more vram
and recent price cuts
But also more power which means more heat
Dumped into my loop

Is the £170 more worth it?
Bit of a personal choice depending what resolution
What games,do all settings need to be on ultra
Do I care about raytracing
For me I don't need everything on ultra
High is fine
And I don't care about Ray tracing

In MM anyway
Think you would get around £260 for a 2080ti
If its water blocked that may alter price
So 2 x 2080ti won't cover the cost of a 7900xt
But will cover a good amount of it

Still not made up my mind lol
Someone is also tempting me with a 3080ti
Though not sure that's enough of a step up

Unfortunately I don't think they would cover the cost of a RX 7900XT, I see RTX 2080Ti selling between £250~270, so at best they might bring in £500‐550. But yes it would still cover the cost. Driver support wise I don't think there would be any difference, there hasn't been for many years with AMD card, and the EOL support for the RX 6800 series would end earliest in 2028 if not later.

Thanks for sharing your thought. I'm on the same page as you. I game at 1440p on at 165Hz and I am fine with high/highest details. Ultra is for me just for making screenshots. Raytracing is also mediocre still.
I think I'm going for the bundle with the RX 6950 XT since I could sell the 1TB NVMe and then the price would be around £555.

@Gripen90 Hail from Århus :). I didn't feel the value of the 7900XT was better than the 6950XT, with the current pricing we have here in Denmark, which is why I got the 6950XT. Now AMD could in theory eventually release some magic driver that might boost RDNA3 that bit more where as I think the 6950XT is pretty tapped out at this point or RT might actually become relevant in which case RDNA2 might be the worse pick.. I feel however that by that time better price/performance offerings might be on the market. Also, as a personal thing, I refuse to pay more than 5000 DKK for a graphics card. The insanity gotta stop. Best of luck.

I have seen plenty sell for over £300 on the famous auction site.

Since that makes the £170 price gap
Even wider
Seems like a reasonable decision to me
Obviously if you are in Denmark
Resale value of your 2080ti might be different
From here in the uk
Good to see another member in Denmark has also
Given their thoughts on it too

Yea that is what I am thinking too. The used market prices here in Denmark are not that high, since people are keeping their hardware longer, and there aren't that many buyers willing to pay what the current market dictates, so sometimes cards are sold under asking prices since, else there are no takers, so you risk having a card laying on the shelf collecting dust and devalue even further.

Great to get a point of view from a fellow Dane. Yes the days of paying in excess of 5000DKK for a graphics card are also over for me, the saved money I can find to be better used elsewhere.
I also don't see prices here get better anytime soon. I had hoped to see 7900XT closer to 5000DKK also, but I highly doubt that would happen this year. So the RX 6950XT looks to be the real only option. Yes there is also RTX 4070, but I'm not paying that much for a card with just 12GB vram.

I happen to agree with your valuation
I said £260
Unless it's a hall of fame 2080ti
But yes being in Denmark may affect values
And amount of available buyers etc
Ebay may also incur sellers fees
I haven't used ebay in years
I got fed up selling hardware to people
Then them saying it didn't work because of user error
While they were installing it
MM or private sale with collection only is all I will do now

Indeed I agree. Ebay I'm only using to buy certain things, but selling I do most in person or some local marketplace groups.
