Something I've never had to do until now.
I'm considering flights and best option seems to be a self transfer connecting flight.

The airport in question is Karlsruhe, Germany
With one terminal.

The layover is 3.5 hours.

I believe this is fine. But I've never had to go to baggage reclaim before on a transfer.

Is this enough time?

Layover time is fine if everything goes well. The problem with self-transfer is that if your first flight is late or cancelled, you won't have any recourse and the airline will not put you on another flight or put you in a hotel if next one is the next day, etc (they must do this if it's a single ticket with a layover). You'd have to buy a new very expensive ticket.

Its direct on way out, but layover with no other option on way back. Might see if I can get a flight with a bigger gap.
Like you say.. Sounds fine if not late/cancelled.

Does insurance cover any of this?
-edit. Doesn't look like it

Baden-Baden right? Haven’t been through it in a couple years but in the 15+ times I’ve landed there it’s been the fastest airport I’ve been to baring Malaga.

Yes. That's the one. Bags come off fast? Getting through security is fast too?

Yep, never been more than 20mins from landing to leaving. Most people use the nearby Stuttgart airport.
Great. I'm going to risk it. Like like spacing it out any further would be next day anyway.
Can't plan for everything
