Since the recording came out, as far as I know, Greenwood has never refuted that it was him.

We all know it was him, and no amount of 'legal' proceedings would change what he's done other than his criminal/non-criminal status. How has he not been sacked on grounds of bringing the club into disrepute?

Because it doesn't fit with Arnold's narrative

The club ownership needs sorted out asap - this "charade" of nearly 9 months now is a joke.
Greenwood situation needs dealt with one way or another.

Greenwood is leaving.

Summary from the club:

Based on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged. That said, as Mason publicly acknowledges today, he has made mistakes which he is taking responsibility for.

All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United. It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.

Aka United didn't feel they could get away with bringing him back in without burning the house down.

Now lets see who blinks and brings him back in. He'll pop up in Turkey or Saudi I suspect.

The correct outcome but probably arrived at the wrong way. The wording of his departure is a bit open ended - I wonder whether he goes out on loan and then returns to the club.

I do wonder whether part of Utd's reluctance to bin Greenwood could be linked to the accusations made against Antony. Utd have now set a precedent for this sort of thing and if the reports are true and Antony's ex-wife follows through with her complaint are Utd now going to have to suspend Antony while an investigation is on going and will they then ditch him?

Weird for the club to have gone further than the Police/CPS (who simply said that the evidence required to prosecute was no longer available).

"Greenwood said: "I want to start by saying I understand that people will judge me because of what they have seen and heard on social media, and I know people will think the worst.

"I was brought up to know that violence or abuse in any relationship is wrong, I did not do the things I was accused of, and in February I was cleared of all charges. However, I fully accept I made mistakes in my relationship, and I take my share of responsibility for the situations which led to the social media post."

You werent cleared Mason, the charges were dropped.

I thought that. There is a degree of ambiguity with the wording. But ultimately I think his contract has been settled and the club will help him to find a new club.

He has a made a statement, it's in the MEN article above, but in case people haven't seen it -

"I am learning to understand my responsibilities to set a good example as a professional footballer, and I’m focused on the big responsibility of being a father, as well as a good partner.

"Today’s decision has been part of a collaborative process between Manchester United, my family and me. The best decision for us all is for me to continue my football career away from Old Trafford, where my presence will not be a distraction for the club. I thank the club for their support since I joined aged seven. There will always be a part of me which is United.

"I am enormously grateful to my family and all my loved ones for their support, and it is now for me to repay the trust those around me have shown. I intend to be a better footballer, but most importantly a good father, a better person, and to use my talents in a positive way on and off the pitch."

Wrong decision IF he is still the prospect that we thought prior to the incident that set this all off. There are no goals in this team. If Hojlund turns out to be a Weghorst 2.0 then we're not getting close to top 4.

At least they have done the right thing especially as they lose any potential transfer fee

Just hope he hasn't received any financial settlement
