3060TI FE to a 4070, worth it ?

Considering saving up and getting a 4070 ( most likely FE as I like the look ) and then selling the 3060ti

Would it be worth it ? I see on YouTube you can get a fair bit more FPS, but would you actually notice the difference ?

I can currently game in 1440p at 144hz no problem, even on GTA5 nice and smooth on ultra and high

Perhaps when phantom liberty and forza 8 comes out it would make more sense to upgrade then ?

Buying second hand 30x series is out the question as I like to buy stuff brand new and be reassured the card hasn't been heavily used by miners etc

Thanks :D

Just gone from the palit 3060ti to the gigabyte gaming oc 4070...seen quite a nice performance upgrade in games like battlefield 2042 etc and can now play cyberpunk with raytracing ultra at around 60fps, some times the latter does drop into mid 50s but totally playable and smooth.

For me the upgrade was worth it, gpu sits under the 200w mark when gaming and temps hit 59 degrees max on my card so nice and cool, the 12gb of ram is nice but wish it was 16gb at least really, didnt go with amd as i like raytracing

I'd start saving but defer buying until you see benchmarks for phantom liberty, cyberpunk is getting a significant uplift in system requirements for both the base game and PL.
Once the game or the pre patch is out, you'll see if you get the performance you want in PL @ 1440P before spending the cash.

4070 is a minimum, the 4060/4060Ti definitely not worth it this generation due to the tiny memory bus.

I expect Forza will be less of an issue.

You may also want to consider a CPU bump to a R7 5700X or better get the most out of the new card.

The RTX4070 is basically the RTX3060TI replacement,ie,the RTX4060TI. It literally is using the equivalent of an RTX3060 class chip.

It's around the same improvement you got from the RTX2060 Super to RTX3060TI or GTX1070 to RTX2060 Super,ie,around 35% to 45% but this time Nvidia added £200 to the price.

This is why the RTX4060TI is so rubbish,it is an RTX3050 replacement pushed up in tier and £100. They want people to buy the RTX4070 for £200 more.

As an RTX3060TI FE owner myself,I am just going to wait longer. The RX7700XT and RX7800XT are out this week, and we will see how they look.

If not I would just wait longer, and drop a few more settings.

Cool thanks guys.

In regard to the 3060TI FE, how much should I be looking to sell it for ? Still have the original box etc.

Also, in terms of performance, are there much differences between 4070FE and the others ( Zotact/Asus etc )

Only you can decide if it's worth it. In my opinion, certainly not but then I only upgraded infrequently - for big improvements. No point dropping £hundreds then needing to run benchmarks to notice the difference!

I think you are just wasting your money. If everything is running fine why are you taking the financial hit - even you are saying you have to save up.

Yet if you have to save up,a £200 premium for an overpriced card is a lot of money. Would you have paid £570 for an RTX3060TI - this is what the RTX4070 is. Plus you have a Ryzen 5 3600 - this will also bottleneck the card in certain games too.

I say this an RTX3060TI owner myself. Be patient and wait for a deal instead.Just look on Hotukdeals.com frequently. Tech forums are full of people who just like splurging money on things.

Or you could just say f it to raytracing(i'm personally not over the moon about it even after trying it a few times on nvidia hardware) and you have much more sensible "cost per frame" options available to you.

Save up..... For a 5xxx series :)

With the current rate of GPU inflation a 5070 will be £799+ with 4070 TI like performance. " The way it's meant to be played paid "
GPU's aren't getting cheap any time soon, if ever again while Nvidia and AMD want to make 60+ % margins and complexity is increasing.

4070 isn't a great leap from 3060Ti, you pay £10 for each extra 1% of performance assuming a typical selling price for your old card.
As I said above, wait for the games to come out and see if you really need that extra performance, or if you want to save for something better.
AMD's 7800 and 7700 will be out and that may mix up the pot a little.

My original CP playthrough was at 1440p with a Vega 64 and optimised settings. It played fine at 45-50 FPS with some FSR but no ray tracing.
Obviously looks nicer if you spin up the details and add a little ray tracing but you don't need it to have a good experience.

As an OG Doom, Quake gamer.... modern games look great even at low settings.

That's a pretty awful upgrade when seen in that context.

Especially given historical trends of a 30%+ performance boost at equivalent price when a new gen releases.

If you can get a good price for the 3060ti then that is one thing - but it isn't an amazing uplift in performance though the extra VRAM can be useful. The 4000 series is pretty woeful really at the tiers and price points they've gone for - the "4070" is really a performance upgrade from a 3060 but paying well over the odds for that.

So for example. GTA 5 in 1440p 144hz at high/ultra is smooth as anything. A GPU upgrade ain't gonna make any difference right ?

As per the advice above, wait until I actually need a better GPU rather than want one. Possibly when phantom liberty is out... Other thing is, lowering some settings will result in a performance increase whilst not necessarily affecting the graphics...

Replacing the Ryzen 3600 with a Ryzen 5800X3D would be the better option.. i did this from a 5700X and saw a huge improvement in games and way better lows in FPS.

One example was not being able to max out GTA V.. now i can with the X3D.. even with the advanced graphics settings turned up.

I also have the same card and personality wouldn't upgrade to a 4070 - in fact I'd avoid the 40 series altogether.

I'd wait for the 50 series to see if Nvidia have learnt their lesson and release affordable GPUs with actual decent performance uplifts.

Yep i did exactly this. Went from 3600 to 5800x3d and kept my 3060ti until something reasonable comes up. Runs everything fine at 1440p.

Did consider the 5800x3d ( current CPU is a 3600 )

Is it not wise to just wait it out and get AM5 when it's more mainstream ?

Also. Does it not depend on the game as to whether I'd get a noticeable increase in CPU performance ?
I mainly play CS GO, GTA 5, Halo and when Phantom Liberty comes out I'll be playing that AND Forza 8.

If games run smoothly already at 1440p surely I wouldn't notice much of an upgrade to a new CPU ?

Here is a good comparison

Shows the 5800X3d has a good performance increase but only on selected titles
