I'm looking for an M.2 drive purely for games that will be seated in the secondary slot of my Gigabyte X570 Elite motherboard.

It's under an Asus 4070Ti so I need something that will fit with a cooler as there's no standard one with the motherboard.

2Tb to 4TB Any recommendations please?

Thanks.

On my B550 I threw a cheap 2TB Crucial P3 into the second slot, it's only PCI-E Gen 3 but cheap and branded. The P3 Pro is Gen 4 and so a little faster for a few ££ more, however B550 is Gen 3 capped in the second slot.
I don't see a need for a heatsink, in general read write for gaming etc. an SSD is barely under any stress and almost all throughput will be read once the game is installed.

I doubt there is any measurable difference in gaming between PCI-E 3 and PCI-E 4, though I have MS flight on the primary WD SN850X just in case.

I'd go with inexpensive and branded as a game storage drive.... some people are still using HDD as game drives.

2tb western digital sn 770 pcie4 from £85 is a good option

Or

Blisteringly fast

ADATA XPG GAMMIX S70 BLADE 2TB PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 for £90

Tbh it might be another 2 years before DirectStorage becomes normalised. I imagine SSD prices will fall by then too so maybe it ain't worth the futureproof and its fine to get a cheaper SATA SSD like Samsung 870
