Ukrainian men from the age of 18-60 are forbidden to leave the country and are subject to the mandatory conscription.

So, yes they are giving their lives to the government. Are a lot of people patriotic doing it for their country yes, but not entirely to say the least.

So going back to my point transparency where possible does seem fair...

No government in a war has ever been transparent in their combat losses.

No one can be sure of a future that didn't happen, but without resistance, that does seem unlikely. Russia aren't exterminating the Belarusian population and that's probably the best model we have for a compliant client state.

Except that did happen, exactly like he said, forced abduction of children, mostly female ones. Males over 16 were shot into mass graves, women were raped en masse and town political leaders were executed. So yeah , no.

You think the UK is any different?

My father in law was very nearly conscripted into the military to fight in the Falklands war, he was in the TA years before the war but him and thousands more were put on notice to be called at any time. Lucky for him it ended quickly.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans were conscripted sent to Vietnam AND 55K died there did they have a choice?

Every country does it so don't play the fool thinking Ukraine is unique in conscripting fighting age men to war, you name a country that doesn't do it, you cant so stop banging on as if Ukraine are doing anything other than what every othe country is doing

Don't forget your puppet master Putin has also conscripted hundred of thousands have you forgot about that too? convenient no

Boss, they're not listening. What should I do?

Open another alt account and agree with your posts.....

Edit/ at what point do they realise you're wasting your time, and you get conscripted to fight in the frontline with your 'brothers'.

It's also important to note people aren't just fighting because their leaders tell them to. If their leaders said "k we give up" you'll still have resistance. And they would then be targeted. And everyone around them because Russia likes collective punishment/war crime bingo.

Yeah, that's a good point - even if the government had fallen in the first days, the organised resistance, esp west of the river would have been extreme.

It seems to have been Russia's notion of the way things would go in the early days was Kyiv falling and the main fighting would have been surrounding and sieging individual hold out army groups and cities, expecting some resistance. A lot of the early forces were a mixture of light assault forces and heavy artillery forces with stuff like the 2S4 Tyulpan and 2S7 Pion being pulled out of storage for this war obviously with the notion of battering hold out forces into submission.

One of the reasons I thought this might be an invasion for real time time leading up to it was Russia completing the first phase of modernisation of the 2S7 Pion (technically now the Malka) in December 2021 - it seemed to be an odd thing to be doing otherwise given the pre-war circumstances.

How many do Russia have left? Seems like a bit of an unsuitable weapon for the current conflict. Easily bettered by much more manoeuvreble rocket launch systems.

Interesting question - satellite imagery shows about 75% of their known parked up reserves have been emptied out, about 25% of their pre-war active number are confirmed destroyed, a lot more will likely be suffering from lacking maintenance and barrel wear, etc.

This is why Ukraine needs lots of stuff like the AS-90 and other manoeuvrable systems which are simpler to use with accuracy and easier to bring in and out as needed reducing exposure so as to avoid a war of attrition on that front with Russia.

Anyone know if there are NATO exercises on? just noticed there has been a E-3B Sentry working hard over Norway and quite a lot of military flights in and out of Norway.
