I got my card at the end of december only had a couple of days on it, then was working away till may.
Just been playing red dead 2, coil whine is so bad it gave me a headache.
So rang overclockers, dude says asus don't class this as a fault nothing we can do.
Just wow, so bad will not ever buy from either again.

1 year old Seasonic Prime PX-1300 1300W 80 Plus Platinum.

Yeah you can't generally rma for coil whine

Wear a headset while gaming or turn your speakers louder

Or put your pc under your desk

Coil whine may be mitigated somewhat if you reapply the cooler to the PCB with new thermal pads and paste

My build is all about a silent build, not now

imagine paying such premium and being told just to wear a headset you lost the lottery

its best to test asap when you can return easily
Yeh not a happy chappy... when you read about fe getting changed for coil whine.

With more power comes more coil whine in my experience, my 16% overclocked 6900XT sounds like a bee is stuck inside it
exactly this. My 6950XT was also buzzing somewhat when I bought it but the second i tamed the watt the coil whine was gone. @seth1969 So my suggestion to you is to try and lower the power target (or core clock like I did but I don't know if nvidia gpus respond the same way) slightly to see if you can get it to a manageable level without loosing any/to much performance.

Mostly but not always, I had a 6700 XT that squealed like a pig but a 3070 right next to it that didn't make a sound.

Both MSI Gaming X models with relatively low power draw compared to the top end.

if you can afford 1.5k for a gpu you can afford a few quid for a headset :p

imo more should send them back instead of just accepting it glad I returned replacement was much better, so maybe they'll try to improve things when paying so much and it being such a lottery, I dont like to wear headset all the time when playing single player games building PC to be as silent as possible and hearing the gpu squeal

I get the sense, just from anacdotes on the web, that power delivery systems with higher-current power phases (but fewer in number) seem more prone to coil whine.

I have a TUF 6800XT that I have used in three rigs with 3 different PSU's. Certain configurations were quiet and others had coil whine.

EVGA GA 750 + Gigabyte X570 MB = coil whine
Switched the power supply in that rig to a Superflower 850 and it was silent.

Sold that rig with my old 3080 in it and used the 6800XT temporarily in an X299 Intel build with the same GA 750 from before and the whine returned.

Decided it was too anoying even with the limited use of that rig, and installed a Corsair RM850 PSU expecting it to get rid of the whine the way the Superflower PSU did. Well, not exactly.
It was quieter, but still there. I thought the Superflower PSU was just better...until I built another X570 rig with a Uinfy board pulling both the Corsair and 6800XT for use in that rig.

With this most recent combo, the coil whine is gone.

So while the 6800XT clearly has "special needs" to avoid coil whine, success is dependent on the PSU *and* motherboard used.

itrs a gamble. these high end gpus are known for the whine, downclocking makes no sense as its high end so use it as was intended, the asus models seem to be among the worse, the net if flooded with complaints of high end coil whine, i just think its like roulette, you pays your money and take the risk, it shouldnt be that way, but it is what it is i guess

My mba is a little whiney but it’s under my desk and I can hardly hear it above the sounds in COD.

everyones acceptable levels are different , If I can clearly hear it when the fans kick in its going back if no replacement I'll just ask for refund best to test asap :)

i have heard that some whine dies off in time with these 4090s, not sure how true that is though, i guess you could be having a revolving door of 4090 returns if your unlucky
