No rma for coil whine- Asus tuff 4090

I get the sense, just from anacdotes on the web, that power delivery systems with higher-current power phases (but fewer in number) seem more prone to coil whine.

I have a TUF 6800XT that I have used in three rigs with 3 different PSU's. Certain configurations were quiet and others had coil whine.

EVGA GA 750 + Gigabyte X570 MB = coil whine
Switched the power supply in that rig to a Superflower 850 and it was silent.

Sold that rig with my old 3080 in it and used the 6800XT temporarily in an X299 Intel build with the same GA 750 from before and the whine returned.

Decided it was too anoying even with the limited use of that rig, and installed a Corsair RM850 PSU expecting it to get rid of the whine the way the Superflower PSU did. Well, not exactly.
It was quieter, but still there. I thought the Superflower PSU was just better...until I built another X570 rig with a Uinfy board pulling both the Corsair and 6800XT for use in that rig.

With this most recent combo, the coil whine is gone.

So while the 6800XT clearly has "special needs" to avoid coil whine, success is dependent on the PSU *and* motherboard used.
Thanks for the laugh. I know I'm broken :P.

Test immediately, return under distance selling if you hear unacceptable whine. It's the only way
I snoozed and lost, was going to waterblock it since i have spent thousands on wc gear to make the pc silent.
Not much point now, just stuck with a 2K lemon, oh well :(

Get an EK block with ABP, and over-cover all the coils with thermal pads or thermal silicone. The encapsulation will help mitigate a lot of the noise.

Wow this kind of has me worried about my rma that I have no even heard about yet, my new gpu has a loud whine like coil whine or fridge humming from the fans, all I have to do is turn them on at 30% in afterburner and it starts. Op you could always go the chargeback route if bought with credit card.

*only just see you bought it in December lol, def should have done testing as soon as got the card, coil whine is the first thing I test for.

Does Consumer Rights Act 2015 not apply here? Product is not of satisfactory quality and has coil whine which could be classed as a minor defect. They might not offer a refund but should be replacing the item.

Would it be possible to get the bank to get a refund, payed by debt card?

Why would you do that?!?

The guy bought the card AGES ago. Just because he bought a 4090 does not give him the excuse to act that way, nor expect anything to be done about it now unless it is faulty. I mean come on man, you spend THAT MUCH on a GPU and leave it that long to test it?.

Like i said in my opening post,i had it 2 days then was working out of the country till may.
In my mind it is faulty, as i can not play on rdr2 its that high pitched and hear it over the speakers...

if whine is that bad and can be heard over speakers, then post a vid so we can tell how bad it actually is, make it easier for folk to understand rather than just talking about it, also a vid can be evidence for asus, so its a win win in reality

As I see it, the issue is the very large amount of time that has passed.

I'm not going to read the legislation, unbelievably boring stuff, but Which is saying that after 6 months it's on the customer to prove it was faulty at purchase.

Along with that, Asus has to agree that coil whine is a fault which I don't think they do.
