No rma for coil whine- Asus tuff 4090

Like i said in my opening post,i had it 2 days then was working out of the country till may.
In my mind it is faulty, as i can not play on rdr2 its that high pitched and hear it over the speakers...
Yep, that's terrible. Completely unacceptable. So..

..I've got £500. I'm prepared to collect in person and bring cash.

Best act quick before the 7800XT is released to rave reviews and beats you to my cash.
:D

This may sound silly but how are you powering the card?

Is it 4 x cables from the PSU to each connecter on the adaptor or do you have 1 x cable split in to 2 on the adaptor then the other 2 directly from the PSU?

I do not have the card or PSU but I have a Palit 4070Ti and had bad coil while, I tried to RMA it but got told that coil whine is not something that can be used to RMA a card.

What reduced the coil whine for me was using 2 x cables from the PSU to each connecter on the adaptor, originally I had 1 x cable split in to 2 x connecters for the adaptor.

I thought it was 2 x cables to the adaptor that came with the card but I must have done it differently with my previous gpu so changed this and it did reduce the coil while but did not get rid of it completely. Once the side case was on etc I could not hear it (Corsair 4000D Case).

You most likely have already checked this and have 4 x cables from the PSU to the GPU but thought I would mention it

Yeh I have 4x from psu to 4x on the adaptor sent with card

Maybe ask to speak to @Gibbo if the coil whine is as bad as you say to the point your getting a headache. IMO I think you have to accept coil whine to a certain degree but obviously there is a limit to where it becomes intolerable.

I think I must be very sensitive to them frequencies.

I had this problem with an Asus motherboard, the VRM had this frequency that cut through me like nails on a chaulkboard, but the people testing for RMA couldnt hear it.

I thought that would be the case but thought I would mention it.

The 4070Ti only needs 2 x 8 pin rather than the 4 on the 4090s.

Out of interest, do you have another PC you could test it in? When I first got mine I tried it in another PC and the coil whine was much less than mine even though the PSU was only a 450W onw

Does he actually do anything though? ignored me after I was sold a card that didnt even exist. completely blanked the message, if I was op I would just go straight for a chargeback, they will listen then. Its my next plan of action.

Yeh that’s how it sounds to me.
I think if they said send it in, they would say the same, can not hear it.
So I’ll just put up with it.
It should defo be classed as a fault,
Lots of people reporting zero coil whine on theirs cards.

You’d think he would, as I’ve probably spend over 20k in the last 12 years.
But that’s chicken feed to some of the customers.

Try get a video of the whine, often helps.

Can be hard to pickup. Trying to record high frequency sounds with a phone for example often ends up muddying and getting distorted with the sound of fans and other components. You'd need a really high quality microphone to pickup clear whine that's easy to hear for someone listening to your recording

I know mate I read it. To me though there is the word "reasonable". As in reasonable time. Having it that long before testing it properly is not really reasonable.

I would set up an RMA, and send it back. You are within your rights to do that. I just think what the other guy said about involving banks and charge backs is pretty unreasonable at the best of times, let alone when you leave it so long to test the card out.

So without being rude or unreasonable, the next time you buy such an expensive item make sure you can test it within the DSR regs. All you had to do was send it back within 7 days is it? and it would be no questions asked at all.

I would have normally, but the last two years have got the better of me.
Ie losing both parents in 6 months. working in Guernsey for five months with out coming home.
Only myself to blame to be fair, but i think coil whine is fault imho, weather low, mid or high end. Looking on asus site bragging about how quite the cooling is :D

Hearing lots of bad about ASUS recently. Especially regarding their DDR5 Mobos
The Asus name hasn't meant anything quality-wise in at least a decade. It was once the case that their motherboards were simply a tier above the competition, especially in the early days of UEFI adoption. Now they get by on having the biggest marketing budget and flashiest epic gamer bling.
