Best Suitcase

Another trip away with the family has again reminded me I really need to change our cases.

Without going silly, say over £800, I need 3 decent cases for family holidays. Any recommendations?
 
800 for 3 cases? How the other half live…. Anyway areolite look decent from what I’ve seen of them. And they’re guaranteed to fit the airlines that you specify.
 
I go to TK Maxx and get 3 that you like.

4 wheels, TSA locks. Even the worst ones lasted me like 5 years, and they are never really more than £70 each.

A £200 case would have to last like 15 years before it get the same value. So I'll happily keep doing this route until TK Maxx raise the prices.
 
It's a right quagmire - I can't imagine 800 is enough to get you out of crap range and into super premium. Best to just get Argos specials and bin them.

My Briggs and Riley carry on was 800 iirc so decent luggage is very costly but has a superb warranty that includes airport damage. It's only worth it if you use it lots...

Just get Samonsite or American Tourister from Costco. No point spending lots on what will be absolutely be thrown about, almost all suitcases are durable enough for that now unless you go seriously cheap.

I'd only spend good money on luggage if it were both to be used as cabin luggage and not on economy flights.

Can anyone comment as to whether the Samsonite / luggage outlets at those McArthur Glenn type places are any cheaper?

American Tourister are fantastic. My 2 hardshell suitcases have been around the world multiple times since I bought them 6 years ago, and they work as well as the day I got them.
 
It seems American Tourister are the ones to go for. I’m going to hunt about and see what deals I can find. I don’t mind spending on something that’s going to last. I hate buying stuff with it to only break after a couple of uses.

The aero step 77cm is 185, so well within budget. I ll check for a better price before I pull the trigger.

We have canvas holdalls with a tough old set of wheels and retractable handle. Been to the other side of the world and back and on numerous flights in Europe. Just a few scuffs and still trucking.

The way you see them throw bags about it's a waste overspending on hold luggage. Cabin baggage is a different matter.
 
I've had a Samsonite S'cure and my girlfriend has had a Tripp (can't remember model) for around the last 8 years. Despite being considerably cheaper, the Tripp has held up much better and I'm probably going to need to replace the Samsonite soon.
 
I have a Samsonite Oyster that’s about 30 years old which is used multiple times through airports each year and hasn’t had a single failure. It’s heavier than the more modern ones and only has two wheels, but it’s extremely tough. Would buy another if needed off eBay or somewhere as they are not made anymore. Not sure what the equivalent would be.
 
Osprey or the north face duffel. You could even go full water proof with that budget. I pack everything in dry bags as they’re water resistance.

If you need to strap it onto the side or roof of a truck/jeep etc when traveling it’s so much easier. Getting around a city/stairs/trains etc is easier too.

The wheels on cases sound great but are a nightmare anywhere but the air port and are just a no go on safari, mountains, jungles, fishing trips etc
