Hi guys,

AMD 5800x and MSI Mag Tomahawk X570 motherboard.

I'm on version E7C84AMS.151 BIOS from 16th November 2020.

PC is working fine.

Is it worth flashing the bios newer version? Are there any CPU perfomance updates or similar worth doing? If so, are they anything significant or a few percentage either way?

Thanks all.

Smart access memory Resize bar if you have an AMD 6000 GPU or newer is a decent feature and lots of other updates but if it's runing fine then leave it .

Thanks.

I have a 7900xt, I also read through the list of bios updates on MSI's website and noted a later driver version has that, yet oddly the bios I have also has the option in the user interface in the bios screen.

After I got the GPU I enabled it, and next boot my GPU drivers seem to reset themselves, for lack of a better term, then the AMD drivers came back, now when I look in the AMD driver software in Windows is says SAM is enabled, so I guess it's working?

Unless it's just saying that but not doing anything?

Latest also has power curve optimiser so potentially lower power consumption and/or better CPU temps if you're willing to tinker

Would leave me to believe it's working?

Personally I always keep my bios up to date and it's even more important for you guys on AMD. Many bios versions include updated Agesa's which can bring optimization tweaks and performance increases, sometimes significant plus there have been a couple of recent security patches for your board so yes I would update it. Using USB flashback it's practically impossible for it to go wrong these days. Do keep in mind that a bios flash will reset the bios settings so write them down before you do it.

Yes looks
Thanks.

Cool you got it and it's probably working ok but software updates through the bios can bring further improvements.

If you have any OC settings/fan curve settings make sure to have screenshots of them. I have a b450 mortar and MSI somehow decided that it cannot restore from a profile with an older / different bios.

That's normal for all manufacturers
Not just msi
Update the bios then previous profiles
Won't load sadly
Makes sense though
As some things your profile has saved
May be replaced in the new bios
Or removed altogether even
Such as the 1.3v soc limit for example

I'm getting a 7800x3d system, so would you still recommend it. I don't know if you have an AMD system but I noticed you need to use a renamed? It sounds like an app but I'm baffled to where it is?
If your board has q flash
Or whatever different manufacturers name it
Ie can bios flash
Without a cpu,ram etc
You don't need an app just shove bios file
On a flash drive and press a button

Or can usually update from within the bios
From a flash drive

If not sure whether you need to Rename
Just shove both versions on the flash drive
One renamed to .cap

Absolutely as there have been overheating issiues which have been fixed with bios update.
You don't need an app you just rename it like you would any file , example Gigabyte.bin

Which motherboard you getting.

I've read the digital manual and they have explained I can do it either through the bios or when the system is off, I need to rename TG60MPW.CAP. That sounds easy, so no matter what bios update I pick on the website, I only need to call it that. Sounds like I dont need the renamed app that comes with the bios update.

That sound correct to you guys and which method should I pick?

Edit actually done some googling and you don't need to rename it unless I'm doing the bios flashback method, is that right, or should I just rename it?

As I said earlier
Put both on the flash drive
One .bin one .cap
It will use the one required for whichever method
You are using
