New car advice

Hi

Im trying to help someone buying a new car, its basically a case of not sure what make/model to get.

They have a Hyundai i30 2009 1.6 diesel and would like to get a petrol or mild hybrid, I did suggest going electric but they are happy with going petrol or hybrid type.

Budget is 20-25k

Also needs to be automatic.

Something reliable with a good warranty and fairly powerful.

I suggested a Ford Puma ST but I think thats around £30k, but with trade in and some discount maybe nearer their budget. Any other good suggestions based on budget and previous car.

If they're happy with their current car you could probably get a new i30 mild hybrid for around the top end of the that budget if they can get some cash for the old car as well.
 
You probably ought to clarify if by 'fairly powerful' you mean something that's about 200-250bhp in OcUK warm hatch territory otherwise you're going to end up with a thread full of suggestions for 400bhp cars that your friend might not be at all interested in.

Ha, well take the ford puma ST thats a 1litre I think and is about 160bhp, something around that area I guess, just needs to have decent overtaking power and pull away. Nothing silly.
 
Anything purchased new is going to be a very nice and reliable car and they all come with a 3-5 year warranty as standard but "looks" matter too so it's really up to your mate as to what he wants parked in his driveway everyday. My new car was only £15k and I still bloody love it but I only wanted something for commuting and shopping that looked modern and funky and would be cheap to run and insure.

Looks not that important, something thats doesn't attract the thieves, the area I live, is high with car crime. I might suggest they look at the new i30 suggested above.

Puma ST is a 200bhp 1.5, Hybrid Puma ST is 170bhp 1.0.

If by new car, you mean genuinely new, then the options at £25,000 aren't massive - brands like Hyundai and Kia will have lengthy warranty periods.

Kia Ceed or Proceed, Hyundai i30, Skoda Fabia, Scala or Octavia, Mini. If they'd prefer crossover/SUV style - Ford Puma, Citroen C4 and Skoda Kamiq are options.

Puma st is 1.5 with 200bhp.

You might be thinking of a st-line.

There is a 1.0 litre automatic ST mentioned above.


I might suggest the Hyundai Kona Hybrid.

Can't see on website but does anyone know if the Kona Hybrid is a plug in hybrid, or self charging?

Yeah they might be able to stretch to 30K and perhaps with some discount or trade in old car, be just under, I will suggest the Hyundai Kona Hybrid.

I think those are the non plug in type.

They're also £30,000 to £35,000 RRP.

Is the budget £20,000 to £25,000 or £30,000 to £35,000?

You open up way more options with the extra £10,000.

They have movement on the budget, like above the Kona hybrid is around £30k with trade in and some haggling would get it below £30k.

Seems like 25-30k is more realistic.

Some of the stuff from Toyota is probably also worth a look then - Corolla, CH-R (probably a stretch but about to be replaced so might be some end of line deals about), Mazda 3 or CX-30, most of the VAG hatchback range.

The Kona seems to review well too.

They did like the Kona as well I believe when they looked at one. The standard trim looks decent as well with sat nav, parking sensors and so on.
