There's a knackered old box trailer (small one) parked in my residents only car park and it's got no reg plates on it and it's been there for ages bothering me. There's no signage here saying the small car park is private for residents only but this is a very secluded dead end close and nobody comes here unless they live here or they're visiting friends/family so obvs it's meant to be for residents only as we've not even got shops/takeaways here where punters might just do a quick stop etc.

There's only me and a taxi man who own cars here/drive and I don't think any of the current tenants own the trailer so my thinking is that it belonged to a past tenant who left it here a long time ago but he's never coming back for it and he's dumped it. Where do I stand with the local council? If I report it is it their responsibility to move it?

Not sure depending on where you live, but here in Sheffield.

You would report it to the Council - They then have another company go out and take photographs and fill in a form to determine if it meets the abandoned car criteria or not.

If so it gets towed to a compound, owner has opportunity to collect but after so many days if not collected would be scrapped.

The criteria it needs to meet to be classed as abandoned is ridiculous.

I imagine the same will apply to your area and it would be a case of reporting.

Takes some pics, pop it on gumtree for £50 and wait for someone to come pay you and tow it away lol

I like this bish bash bosh approach as I hate wasting my time on nonsense. I might take this advice when I'm sure none of my close neighbours own this hunk of junk ! It's got no reg plates on it so how would any council find out who owns it...

The council won't care.
They'll see it as abandoned and remove it using a contractor.

Just report it.

no plates on a car on public road is illegal iirc
report it using 101
1) It's not a car.
2) If it was a car, its parked on private land.
3) If it was parked on the road, it still wouldn't be committing an offence as its not hitched or being towed.

OP: Report it to the owners of the resident's car park?

That's very complicated as I don't know who the actual land owner is or who actually owns the complex. This building, to the best of my knowledge, is ex-council and a few different landlords/letting agents bought/manage the individual flats and I'm also sure 1 of the residents actually took a mortgage out on his flat as he's been here 20 years. It feels like a spiders web of legal hassles that I don't want to start or get involved in as I'm just renting so all I want is a quiet life and no drama.

I can either snitch to the council/police quietly or I can put in a complaint to my letting agency/landlord but the last thing I want to do is make my landlord think I'm a bad tenant who causes problems as he might not be too keen to offer me another tenancy when the next renewal comes up. I could, of course, also carry on turning a blind to the trailer and pretend it's not there but it's an ugly eyesore I hate seeing everyday and it causes a few problems for me and another resident too as we have to manoeuvre around it carefully to avoid bumping each others cars.

Sorry I should have quoted the post above, I was speaking in general terms

Just setup an account on freecycle stating that you lost the key and its been that long its just taking up space and cant remember whats in it. (it doesnt smell like rotting flesh does it? ). You are currently away so its a case of whoever turns up with something to tow it away with gets it then just give the address to randos on the internet.. :D It will be gone in a day or two.. ;)

Do you have any Travellers nearby? Mention it to them and I'm sure they would happily dispose of it

...what if there are valuables inside? OP, get your axe out...

I've got a lot of similar questions in my head which is why I haven't jumped the gun just yet and why I'm going to check with the neighbours in my block first to make sure nobody here actually owns it. This "thing" looks like junk to me but it's got a very old wheel clamp on it so someone must've cared about it at some stage. Taking the reg plates off is a bit weird though and that's why I think it has been dumped/abandoned.

Interesting idea. I'm loving all the dodgy options but not sure if I want to invite crazies to the same place where I park my own car :D

I literally can’t wait to hear what disaster awaits him tomorrow.

Would that be because you've really got a very sad existence and like reading about other peoples problems/misfortunes to make yourself feel better/superior? Is my life amusing to you? You find the topic of an abandoned trailer "disastrous" ? All my questions to you in this reply are rhetorical as I already know the answers as you've just shown me your personality so it's an easy decision to add you to my mute-ignore list so I don't waste time conversing with you again. Have fun reading and mocking everything that happens in my life :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Could always drag it in a place where the council WILL care :D

Move it out on to the public road, then report it.
