Massive Car insurance costs?

The risk appetite of your insurer has probably changed.

Premiums are on the increase in many cases, but rave you run a quite through a comparison site yet?
 
Don't feel too bad, it's not just you they're picking on.

Massive Car insurance costs?

Just seeing if I'm going mad here. Been driving 2 years, no points. 32 years old. Last year's insurance was £610 on Hastings Premier. Just looking at quotes and the same plan on compare the market is £864? what on earth is going on??? Can't get it below 850 no matter what I do or where I look...

Who is your insurer? sadly a couple like Admiral have decided they don't need 1000s of customers, basically market segments who don't make them much money, and just jacking up prices to make them go away/worth keeping if they pay higher prices and the industry in general is massively ramping prices.

I was with admiral for about 6 years until my renewal came up this year and they hiked my price up £300. After some shopping around I'm paying around the same as last year.
 
I actually got a pretty okay deal with admiral when I also took out home insurance with them, seems they're very interested when you take out additional products with them.

But yeah, seems insurance costs are rocketing for everyone. I imagine we'll start seeing a real increase in uninsured drivers on the road. Not everyone can suck up a few extra hundred quid just for insurance.

Done all three of the big ones. Just insane. Adrimal actually was my insurer before last and it was £750, now they want 2.5k!

Currently CoOp ECO, which have actually been fine until they asked for 1.9k!

Marshmallow insurance can do £940 but that's still a huge rise and some random insurance company I have never heard of.
 
My renewal went from 600 odd to over 1100. No, ta. Cheapest I got shopping about was £930. TBH I would have switched provider out of principle even if it cost me a bit
 
Definitely look around. I went from £490 to £750+ from most providers earlier this year. Some wanted £1k or refused to quote. 2015 BMW 428I GC, average postcode, 12+ years NCB.

Eventually got a quote from Stella who apparently are geared to lady drivers for £550 which I snapped up.

Its stupid isn't it!

17 almost 18 years of driving, no convictions, no points, 5 years no claims (only so low as company car never transferred, else would have been something like 12).
 
my insurance is still dirt cheap, they must be picking on anyone with a remotely nice car.

my cars are all weak engine cheap rubbish compared to the lovely powerful cars many have these days.

When I was 21 I had a Celica GT and that was £420 to insure. Before this car I had about £25ks worth of Merc on the drive (C250d AMG Premium Plus) and that was £600 to insure. It's has literally just shot up this year with no reason why!

I highly doubt that all insurers suddenly got together & decided to simultaneously rip everyone off.

It's more than likely due to the fact that the cost of repairs has increased, they are having to pay staff a lot more, the cost of running their premises in terms of gas & electricity has gone up, bear in mind that some of the bigger players can have over 1000 people at a single site.
 
We have a multicar with Admiral, which when renewal was due last month had gone up about 30%.
I rang them after getting seperate quotes which worked out around the same as we payed last year.
To be fair they slightly bettered the alternative quotes we had received and would have been cheaper still if we had added home.

There is no "to be fair" about this at all. Admiral are a right wind up.

I paid £850 last year for an E43 + home insurance. This year it was £1600. After 30 secs on the phone he had found 200 quid "one off discounts" and then with a few more jiggery nonesense he got it to £1146.

So still way more than last year but 450 off the original quote. I hate companies that rinse people like this.
 
europe had similar inflation but insurance prices didn't go up there ... so it's purely a UK effect - maybe govt can investigate that after supermarket supply lines;

mine increased 30% seemed doubly damning with continued reduced mileage post covid , stayed with AA because combined with breakdown was still best offer
 
Same here, and same for everybody I know.. Funny how it hasn't been mentioned in the news.

Last year was £830, this year just over £1,000... I have no points on my license, and have two years NCD so far..
