Not sure the accuracy but that isn't quite on the dry dock.

..and yet that Russian general thinks they could invade more of Europe
:p
:D

In conventional war terms, i genuinely think Russia's army would get utterly devastated in a matter of days against NATO.

Albeit some of the countries who've left have taken a chunk of the equipment with them but Ukraine has destroyed the mainstay of the USSR's [ground] armour fleet produced with the ability to invade Europe in mind.

There are implications there though in that if Russia is facing defeat to Ukraine it saves a lot more face if they can spin it domestically as NATO aggression and against the background of engaging with the whole of the West rather than getting their arses handed to them by an entity 1/3rd their size.

NATO is not aggressive.... it's a defence pact. Expansion is seen as aggression to the Russian tards based on the cold war, which they lost. They have replaced the TSAR with nothing but another class and they are blind to it.

Roar will be crying into his pillow right about now

About a Submarine?

I'm thinking about the bigger picture really, the long term strategic ramifications of this war which will persist for decades afterwards and how it'll shape our future, the possibility of a divided world, how future conflicts could arise from this, disappointed in our global leaders inability to find peaceful solutions. You're cheering about a Submarine where as I'm thinking how many soldiers will be dead this week from brutal fighting, murdered in horrific ways that you won't see or hear about. I wish I had your brain then I could just wave my flag and cheer about a Submarine.

Indeed. It's rather amusing Russia is using the excuse of NATO expansion. Yet they have no capability / cannot admit the reason more countries wanted to join is precisely because of Russian actions in Georgia, Transnistria, Syria, more later Crimea / Ukraine. But then I guess to Russia those are all perfectly valid "special operations" to save Russia from the West and so that's irrellevant. All he's done the last decades is threaten neighbours and poke and prod. Some people accuse NATO of prodding the bear, it's the other way round.

What is the peaceful solution to this conflict?

It is a divided world, Putin and Xi have seen to that, until they make substantial and trustable (LOL) first moves there can be no enduring peace. Unfortunately future conflicts will arise from this directly or indirectly - the best thing we can do, at least as far as countries allied to us (us being West/NATO), is have a strong response to them to deter the use of force.

Valdolf is unlikely to see out another term, after that who knows. This was never going to be a special 3 day military operation…

I'm thinking that Cold War 2.0 doesn't really represent a brilliant future for us all. NATO was supposed to be an answer to Communist expansion, which was a legitimate threat after Stalin ensured that ideology spread throughout Eastern Europe through corrupt means after World War 2, i.e. illegitimate elections, etc. There was definitely an opportunity for Russia and the West to reconcile after the USSR collapsed, but instead we're here. It's sad really.

Russia and the west were reconciling until Putin came to power.
Its hardly a secret that his ambition was to restore the USSR in effect.

Russia had every opportunity to do all you say. The blame lies 100% with Putin.
But then irrationality and the goals of a small number of individuals are behind all wars and all conflict.

They don't seem to do so well against Storm Shadows/SCALP though there are varying reports as to what missiles were used here - most likely was Storm Shadows though.

EDIT: Though they do seem to have intercepted at least 2 of the missiles maybe more - one thing their air defences are relatively weak to is saturation attacks.
I'm going to guess they launched a load of their modified Neptunes along with a healthy dose of Storm Shadows. The Neptunes would be ideal to overwhelm the Russian air defences whilst the stealthy Storm Shadows do what they do best. And if any Neptunes get through too, well that's a bonus.
