I was born in the seventies and my body is starting to get old and creaky now. As a child of that era, i've always known videogames and dungeons & dragons and as I get older wonder what retirement looks like.

I married a Japanese lady 25 years ago so our plan is to move to Fukuoka where we've bought a flat, we've put a lot of our money into our private pensions and both will have full UK pension soon. I think she wants to run an import business and i'll be heads down making videogames.

Can't say I imagine living out my retirement in a flat, but good on you for getting to this point.
In case you are not aware, the UK has no social security treaty with Japan so once you move from the UK your state pension will not increase every year like it does when you live here. This means the value of it will erode over time - particularly painful during and after periods of high inflation.

I'm aware of that :)

Retire...fall sick... government force me to sell the house to pay for my own care in some sub-standard home. Whereas some one who has been on benefits gets a better standard of care in a council run home that actually has standards to follow.

Yeahhh really looking forward to it.

The idea of buying a boat when I am 80 taking it out to the mid Atlantic for lols and seeing what happens is way more appealing one last adventure. I have no idea about sailing either.

I believe one in ten people in Japan are over eighty. You will be in good company.
