There's a phone I'm thinking of grabbing (OnePlus Nord CE3 lite), it ticks all the boxes but it has an IPS screen. Now I've read a few websites that do comparisons and it seems every sites says a different thing. So does anyone on here have any real world experience?

Typcially OLEDs will have better colours, pure blacks, better viewing angles and more power efficient. IPS colours are still good but you may get backlight bleed depending on the quality of it. However in the end it still depends on the phone manufacturer to properly calibrate the screen, a proper tuned IPS panel will still do well against OLED. Last time I checked, OP doesn't bother calibrating the screens as well as their higher end phones.

I don't think reviews agree with OLED phones being more power efficient.

Even ones with monster batteries like some of the Samsung M series with 6Ah or even 7Ah batteries are usually beaten by IPS phones.

Now the reason might be that the test suit has too much web browsing and web pages seldom have black backgrounds. Video battery usage benchmarks do tend to do well on OLED screens. And of course things like an always on clock work far better on OLED.

There's just too many variables. If anything I feel it's due to trying to push the max brightness up every new generation, which will significantly increase the drain. It's hard to compare screens to each other on different phones when each manufacturer has tweaked them all differently, even between their own models.

Basically don't worry too much if it's IPS or OLED, as long as you're happy with it, then it's all good.

oled is not the be all and end all, its not worth a massive premium.

and in my experience of owning two or three phones with faulty OLED screen and never having a faulty non OLED phone even though i have had considerably more of them, i know what technology is less reliable.

No always on display would be a massive drawback for me

It’s the first thing I turn off on any device :P

Personally I like OLED because of the superior outdoor legibility.

Sunlight sucks the contrast out of a display, so having a display with significantly better contrast, not to mention the fact the display is laminated to the glass, makes for a much improved outdoor viewing experience.

Good LCDs are fine, but cheap LCDs look quite cheap IMO.
