Asus Z690-A... Limit 13900kf max temps in bios ??

I want to limit MAX temp of my processor via the bios after seeing it hit 100c.

If I go into ASUS Multicore Enhancement I get the options....

..Auto
..Disabled - Enforce all Intel limits
..Enabled - Remove all limits - maximum performance
..Enabled - Remove all limits (90c)

Only the last option seems of use here, 90c limit yet not low enough. If I drill down to the next level I see what I want. 'Max CPU temp', 'Package thermal threshold' and 'regulate frequency by above threshold' yet the first two are greyed out whatever I select on the prior screen !?!

How do I change these options alone ?

Rather than limiting the max temp, another way to approach the issue would be a negative offset on the vcore voltage (under volting, essentially).

I've had fairly good results doing this on a 13600k on an ASUS prime z790.

I can't remember the exact gains, but in cinebanch it compared to stock bios setings*:

  • Did not lose any performance to speak of, about 100 points or something - margin of error territory.
  • recuced peak temps in cinebench.
  • reduced peak power draw of CPU running cinebench
*XMP has always been enabled so not technicaly stock

Edit, ahh here:
  • Cinebench scores teh same within margin of error, around 23500 give or take 50 between runs.
  • Peak CPU wattage is down by 15watts.
  • Peak CPU temperature is down 10c.

The system will hard shut down if it gets too hot, but before that, it will throttle speed and voltage.

The T-Junction Max for that chip is 100c

So if/when you hit 100c, you can excpect some hard speed throttling before an eventual hard shutdown for safety.
You're not realistically going to damage anything unless you've turned off some of the safety measures in BIOS.

EDIT, although it is odd you hit 100c just installing a game... maybe there is some other variable going on here, but I'm struggling to think whatit would be.

What are your peak cinebench temps?
